Just found this on Craigslist, if you can believe it.  I see these quite often on there, someone begging for others to take their online courses/homework/test for them online.

Quote
Take my math placement for me - all online (Oregon)

Hey all,
Not my proudest moment, but in order to continue my business courses I have to test out of 11 levels of math courses in order to take my one statistics requirement. Was hoping, since I've already studied stats at my previous school, if one of you out there would save me LOADS of tuition money on credits they won't transfer over.

It's all online, no issues there. We can meet before, or not at all.
Send to friends you may know, doesn't have to be in Oregon.

Let me know what you prefer as far as compensation goes, I'm a broke college kid so I don't have a whole lot.

Thanks for reading,
N

Not that it will matter in a couple hours, it will probably get flagged, but here's the link.

I just can't believe people do this, and the really sad thing is...for a price...people will do it for them.

ya, i'm thinking of contacting this guy, find out what the course is and where, and then notify his instructor. A person like this shouldn't be in school, if he's not willing to do the work to get that degree.

Going to be SOL when he gets a job that requires competence. Perhaps he's aiming just to be incompetent enough to get a CxO position...

It's might just be a business decision.

It isn't necessary to invoke newfangled "online courses".

There is a thriving market in passing traditional exams by having an imposter physically sit it for you.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

Of course its a business decision. Cheating usually is. Its rare to have a pal do things for you for free.

He can apparently save the tuition fees by just sitting the tests. He would save even more if he didn't need to pay someone to sit them. He obviously lacks the knowledge to sit the tests himself. Not being able  to carry over credits sounds like BS.

It's cheating, online or in class is irrelevant.

Right. Nobody has ever cheated before the Snake People invented cheating. Gotcha.

I thought cheating on exams were part of engineering problem solving. The problem being teachers asking us to remember things, like:

This is actually something I was supposed to remember. I mean, solve? OK just math. But remember? Come on! Bonus points to someone telling what it is without cheating.

Giving the person the benefit of the doubt, it sounds like they've just gotten screwed over by a bunch of credits not transferring from another institution and now need to get past 11 prerequisites to get into the one class they actually need for their degree.  Even if you're prepared to ace the required business statistics course, doing the necessary review to test out of all the prerequisites at once would be a tremendous pain in the ass.  It's still cheating, but as long as the poster is prepared for the stat course (which it sounds like they are, having taken statistics before), then I'd have a hard time getting worked up about it.

Bloody heck :)

In many of my exams we were allowed to bring in any books/notes we like. Some people were foolish enough to believe that made their lives easier :)

Stay tune, you don't.

In High School already, therefore likely coming to a college near you: Group projects are old-news.  Now graded "group Quiz" and graded "group Test" are in play.  You just need to get yourself into a group with one student who would.

Was like that in the late 1990s. I had to do all the work while some gimp took the credit.

Not just online courses but online training as well. I see this huge push for this kind of rubbish in lieu of actual face-to-face training in the workplace. Of course it's just a tick and flick exercise -- No one actually reads the stuff, they just click through the pages to get through to the end so they've "completed" it.

I get that different people have different learning styles, but I would say from what I've seen, maybe 1 in 10 people will actually sit there and read through the content themselves.

When my ex was going for a second degree, she was doing some of her classes online. When it came time to take tests, she had to plug in a special camera they sent her. Apparently it was monitored or reviewed to make sure no one else was in the room with her.

Problem is, I could have installed VNC on her computer, taken remote control and been the one actually taking the tests and nobody would have been the wiser. So I'm not sure what it really accomplished.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic; e.g., Cheez Whiz, Hot Dogs and RF.

It seems extremely to write a whole industry and countless people for the silly act of one individual.

The transition education model is outdated and inefficient. I think most people can agree with that.

I don't think what the solution is but I'm reasonably sure that technology is a big part of it. So let people experiment. Not everything we try will work out but if we are too afraid of failures to try, it will never work out.

8-10 years ago, there were test delivery companies with test centers nation wide that private industries use for certification tests and for other test purposes.  If those test delivery companies still exist, an on-line university could choose to have the test delivered only to those centers.  Then, they know the test taker's ID has been check and they were monitored during the test.

Test delivery companies' employees can be and have been bribed to allow the wrong person to take the test, or just to feed the right answer to the examinees.

People are people, and it doesn't matter who employs them.
