Why stuff gets lost in shipping.
« on: December 10, 2020, 02:59:08 pm »
Have a number of shipments from AliExpress & eBay floating around somewhere  :-\

I've been informed one of the AliExpress items is scheduled for delivery today by the USPS. Upon checking I found that package arrived in Atlanta GA from overseas, then sent to Memphis TN, then to Oxford MS, then Jacksonville FL, then Washington DC, then Greensboro NC, then back to Jacksonville FL, and now finally to Clearwater FL (my location)  :wtf:

No wonder so much stuff gets lost in shipping, it seems like the next location in the delivery sequence is a random location  :o

RE: next location...

It does sometimes seem like a random process. A while ago, I was waiting on an order from Amazon. They have a service where I can actually SEE where the driver is on a map in real time...and you can refresh the screen..."there are 6 stops ahead of you"...."there are 2 stops ahead of you"....It got to YOU ARE THE NEXT STOP [oh, yay!]...but then no delivery and no joy. Required a re-ship with the message (eventually) that it was damaged in shipment. Now, I hope the driver did not get in an accident and prefer to think that at the critical point, it was noticed that "I don't have that one" :)

Well... it is not surprising, small 20g package from Aliexpress can get lost.

But whats more suprising, that our fucking piece of shit postUSSR country's post office, can lose a 30kg of power supply.  :box: |O

Recently had two packages with a hole on the side and one with a opened bottom for peeking in. :palm:
Apparently they were not interested in the contents. ::)

A bigger problem around here is packages that get stolen after they're delivered. It's reached epidemic proportions recently as we approach the Christmas holidays during the pandemic as people are staying at home and shopping on-line.

I have seen many delays, but nothing compared to the slow freight from China in certain parcels. For certain parcels that arrive very damaged, I always suspect if an accident or other problem happened. Certainly in these times where almost everyone is buying online, theft has become quite tempting.

Here are the reasons:

Item never left supplier or sellers location.

Wrong address on parcel

Address unreadable

Label scraped off

Driver left at wrong location

Item stolen from location where it was left. This is becoming very common.

Driver took a lot of stuff home to his basement (Don’t laugh, Canada post once found carrier with a basement full of mail.

May be some theft by various people who might handle item along the way.

Truck stolen from carrier with contents never found  Accident where contents is destroyed.

USPS, FedEx etc. Have pretty good tracking so should not be much of a problem. Postal services scan a parcel when it leaves the sending location and not again until the bag is dumped out at the sorting or destination facility. A lot can happen in between such as bag misrouted or otherwise lost.

A lot of items wind up blocked at customs or other location because they can’t handle the volume and wind up with a huge backlog. Eventually it will be found. Or not.

Considering the volume not much gets lost. Otherwise someplace would have a lot of parcels. Lol

About shipping from China. They seem to have about two services. One is by ChinaPost. This may or may not be recognized by Postal Union countries and slow as the coming of spring. The other is a service I think was instituted by the companies themselves called Speedpack. It is usually very fast, so I try to deal with sellers who use that. Good to check before purchasing what the seller uses. Especially if they are offering free shipping.

Are things more likely to get lost around christmas time with the increase volume of posted items? I notice LCSC has a few more postal options these days, with registered post and something called YunExpress. Doesn't matter if they take 4 weeks, just as long as it gets here.

Item stolen from location where it was left. This is becoming very common.
That will become less common as security cameras are becoming cheaper. Not to mention more people staying home so the opportunity time to steal a package has reduced, and easier to get caught.

You think that matters? They just get lost with or without tracking.

You just don't know how Russian post works. A package without tracking can be simply thrown out by any employee along the way, it is almost non-existent legally, it is a headless rider. Packages with tracking are much more reliable.

This is a common problem of a public offer, when you do not have a clear contract with obligations and guarantees. But you see that the Chinese comrades are taking the risk of losses on themselves.

By the way, Russian post has launched a new feature: now for about 1 Euro you can insure the delivery time. If the parcel does not arrive on time, approximately 6 Euros will be paid for each day of delay, but no more than 30 Euros. But it is still unclear how long to consider the deadline.  |O

In general, I am even surprised that our problems, justified by our russian sloppiness, exist both in Europe and in America...
But good cigars in Holland and Germany are much cheaper and of high quality - my daughter always buys them when she is on a trip.  :)
And sorry for my English.

Imagine how many small, poor сhinese sellers lost almost everything. I don't think they insure. After all, many sellers on aliexpress work at a buildings, fjr examole, during the day, and in the evening they write out orders, go buy them at the local market and send them to the post office.
And sorry for my English.
