Anybody know of a good ES file explorer replacement?
« on: August 05, 2017, 01:34:32 pm »
So if anybody has an Android tablet or phone, they may be aware of an app called ES file explorer. They also may be aware of the bullshit they make you do, just for simple tasks like using SMB 2 or viewing system files.

So I am now looking for a free file explorer that supports SMB 2 and can view system files. It also should not be a massive pile of adware.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

I switched to Solid Explorer when the ES bullshit first started. I have not used it for SMB support, but it does offer it. I believe I paid a few $ to unlock it.

Yes, they messed up the app quite a bit. It was probably the best root explorer for years. I went back to 3.2.5, which can be downloaded from http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/es-global/es-file-explorer/es-file-explorer-3-2-5-release/es-file-explorer-3-2-5-4-android-apk-download/

ES file explorer is what turned me to iOS. Had enough of that sort of shit.

Which is funny because iOS has no user visible file system unless you pull some root or SSH nonsense.

It does as of iOS 11. To be honest you don't need one - it has a different concept that works just as well.

You may not, but I do.

Whatever, I found something that works perfectly fine. File Manager + does that I ask of it. It can view system files, it connects to my SMB 2 server, and will play videos off of it. It's lightweight, and doesn't make me take up VERY valuable storage with bogus apps I need to download for basic functionality.

I removed ES a while ago, too.
"File Manager" from "ZenUI Asus" does the job now.

Recently went into this.  I tried a few, looking for something network capable - and the song and dance with ES was painful.

Gets my vote.  I have it on my phone and tablet - accessing the household server.
