I have been having problems getting this 2018 Microsoft surface less then a year old to charge. It has a really weird and expensive power supply that works sometimes- well the charger seems to be turned on by the computer you plug it in and a light on the charge plug itself lights after about a second.

But the only way to get this to charge is to take the primary or 110vac figure eight or wall plug in and out several times and after many attempts the LED will come on. Trying this same thing using the plug to the computer be it the keyboard or to the tablet it self directly it won't charge. Only the AC side power cycles work, and it seems to take about 10 tries. I just bought two different power supplies a generic and an $99 Microsoft one and same problem!!!! I don't get it is this software firmware? Several upgrades have been done to windows but that doesn't seem to make it worse or better.

Also sometimes when you have the screen plugged into the keyboard it will "detach" not physically but makes the detach noise and goes into "tablet mode". This computer was 1400$ and I can't exactly afford a new one after nine months of use. Why would it do this? So strange.

I had a similar issue with one of first models where the charging light went out and movement affected it.
I thought at first there maybe a breakage in the cable but it turned out the contacts were dirty and grime was stopping the connector going all the way in.

Funny you mention that literally right before I read that it was charging, I did the replugging of the AC side and it was charging I then moved it slightly enough that the hinge wiggled and it went out. I tried claning the contacts with alcohol but this laptop is always on the charger, initially I ducked taped the charger into it so that I wouldn't have this problem and never undocked for fear of making it worse. So brand new contacts and ones never exposed to dust. This is driving me nuts and pissing me off at this point.

What did you use to clean the contacts on the inside of the tablet part? I wiped the outer ones with IPA but as I said this is new-er and never exposed to dust/grime I keep food away from it.  :-// |O |O :o :scared: :palm: :wtf:

I think it was alcohol 70% IPA wipes that I used.
