Over the last 2 months, approximately, my Ampx64 laptop has gotten sluggish and many times HD videos can no longer play smoothly at 2x speed playback, even at 1x speed when other items are being refreshed on the page.  Also the cooling fan is going on more than usual.

After opening up Windows Task Manager, I found that always 25% (I have i5 2450, 2core 2.5ghz, 4 threads, so basically 1 CPU is gone) on average of my CPU was always being used and that 'MsMpEng.exe' antimalware was the culprit.  My second home PC also has Win7Pro with the same installation of MS Security Essentials, but doesn't have this CPU eating issue.  (This system is an AMD Phenom(tm) II x4 955 3.2GHz)  Could this be something related to the latest security flaw patches hitting Intel processors worse than AMD processors?

How do I fix?  Other than disabling MS Security Essentials which make my laptop work like 2 months ago through approximately 2 years ago when I first bought it and began using MS Security Essentials from day 1.

One thing I've seen is that you can exclude it from scanning itself, which is one cause of the high CPU. In the Windows Defender settings, exclude c:\program files\windows defender from scanning by adding this folder as an exception.
