Windows 10 file explorer search results shows all files
« on: December 11, 2021, 10:40:07 am »
It is just me or is win10 file explorer crap, like the rest of it. I open it, and to do a search, I only see a cursor box, so how do u choose search parameters before typing something in and searching. Afterwards, I can see a tab that lists some search options, but I can't find it before-hand.

Also when I do a basic search, so just entering a word into the search box, the results are all files in the folder, but windows was so thoughtful as to put a pale yellow highlight on the word I searched, if it's in the files name.

So rather than just listing the files that have the word in the name, or tiltle or whatever, it lists ALL the dam files, but just puts a little highlight on a few of the files. And I can't see a way to make all the highlighted files be at the top of the list , all together, they are all spaced out by name, or date, everything but a positive search hit.

See what I mean

Hello friend.  I don't understand that!  I just tried a Search on Win-10 for any files with 'cat' in the filenames.  This was a
directory with over a thousand embroidery files, and it only listed those specific ones?...

Does the full path of found files contain the word “motor”? Does the content of found HTML, CSS, Java Script files contain the word “motor”?

Hi. Glenn again...  Sorry mate, I cant find any ref to that problem either!!
Maybe try this page, on trying to fix Windows Explorer Search problems...
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/fix-windows-file-explorer-search/

It sounds like you aren't happy with Win-10!! hahaha. I used to feel that way, but am now very happy with it,
since having all the crap stripped out of it!  It even automatically updates itself, but NEVER changes any settings
or options, or software, from how it is now, the way I want it!   8)
