Windows 10 Notifications Won't Stop
« on: February 28, 2018, 08:57:25 pm »
Every time I boot my PC, I get a series of notifications from MS telling me to long into the store, add info to my account, something about xbox, and a scare tactic don't get locked out!

All of my notifications are off and I cannot figure out how to stop this. It's jut MS being pushy, intrusive, and rude. I'm expecting that there will eventually be OS pop-ups doing this crap. Can you imagine?

Personally I would ditch Windows 10 any day in favor of something usable: Either Windows 7 or a Linux distro - depends on the personal needs of course.

If you have access to a Microsoft Imagine or MSDN subscription (or are particularly wealthy) I'd suggest Windows Server 2016. It's Windows 10, just without all the crap.  No Windows Store, UWP is barely a thing, notifications aren't really used, Cortana is gone, there are no forced updates, and I'd imagine it would run a bit faster too.

Besides that, Windows 7 is still loved a lot, and Linux is something everybody suggests, but nobody actually uses for software support reasons.

I know this is the answer you don't want, believe me I have made forum posts where I had to ask many times to help me fix the problem instead of just telling me to do something else (I use Turbo C, Stack Overflow is a frigging nightmare), but that's pretty much all the advice we can give you. Windows Store will continue to bug you, Windows 10 will continue to spy on you, and Microsoft will never change.

Windows 2000 was the height Microsoft never reached again. A rock solid operating system with brain dead simple UI, and software support like crazy (when it was still supported). Every single release after that perpetually sunk into the ground. Server 2016 for me is actually really good, but I have that because of a special deal with Microsoft, and it's not something that is easy for most people to get. If you need to use Windows, Windows 7 or 2016 is going to be the best idea.

If you want to stick with W10, there is also this: https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
Have not tried it myself though!
