Quadrotor awesomeness
« on: June 26, 2012, 03:58:10 pm »

Apparently they used about 20 VICON moiton capture cameras to track the motion and feed back to the (individually calibrated) moving-head lights.
I hear there is a big making-of video in the works.

Youtube channel:Taking wierd stuff apart. Very apart.
Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
Day Job: Mostly LEDs

So would they use IR as a beacon on each unit? I'm guessing they would need constant feedback. I wonder if they tracked the altitude with cameras as well, or if they had a system in the copter to provide that.

It would need a very high update rate to keep the from crashing. Must have been a massive vortex problem.

If they used motion capture cameras that provides full 3D position, no need for separate altitude tracking system. These usually work at up to 120Hz refresh rate.

Hey I wonder if this can be used to prank a tin-foil hat wearing neighbor in the middle of the night.  To see the look on their face as they run out to the street in their skivvies (and tin foil hat of course) would be priceless.  :)
