The microchip is just symbolic, they can do everything with face recognition they can do with microchips and its far less intrusive.
Ive seen augmented reality demos combining screen pop with face recognition. Walking down the street and every person you see can have all their info associated with them. (as well as an analysis of their emotional state from their facial expression)
Thats a killer app.
