constant current regulator

hello all,

I have a 20V source (wall wart) that im looking to use to power a 1.2A 5V laser diode driver, I'm using the wall wart to power a set of stepper motors as well, and I would like to use just the one supply. I could use a LM117 or 317 etc, but I feel like thats just wasting a lot of power and heat. Is there a better way to go about this.

An SMPS. Dave even did a whole video about designing one.

Why not simply buy a 5V 1.2A wall wart? It'll probably even work out cheaper than designing an SMPS.
