I/O question
« on: December 08, 2014, 03:25:33 pm »
Hi all

I have a National Instruments PCIe to GPIB card in my pc and a few bits of kit daisy chained off of it. My question is can I use one bit of software to talk to some of the kit and another bit of software to communicate with other kit? Or does each program need exclusive access to the bus?

Cheers

that would depend on the VISA library you're using, I'd think.

And given that the libraries are distributed as components that are meant to be used by lots of programs, I'd guess that multiple simultaneous use is kosher.

note that I've not tested, and am only theorizing, but I'm leaning heavily toward "probably."

Yeah that's what I was thinking, may have to just try it and see. I'm using the NI VISA libraries
