Yamaha AV Receiver is dead - Let me intro myself
(1/2) > >>

Hi, my name is Ilan.

I have recently started arduino projects. I am a programmer and want to get into hardware. During the course I am taking for the projects my AV receiver for the sourround sound system suddenly stopped working.

I thought...I can fix this. I have a multi meter how hard can it be to diagnose. Well as you can all imagine, not easy for me at least.

I tried to follow this video

as my machine is very similar to this one even though the model is different. So this is where I am at. I am trying to self teach and self repair but really need mentoring. I will go through some of the course and tutorials online.

Are there meet up or people in Sydney Aus, who will be willing to teach me how to analysis this device? I could send it off for repair (not worth the cost) or throw it out and by a new receiver (only $185) but I really want to understand how to work this out.

Let me know if anyone is interested in mentoring. Anyway that is who I am and how I arrived here.

Hi,

I’m not near Sydney, so I cannot help in that regard. But perhaps if you provided some more details about your receiver (model number in particular) and a more specific set of symptoms/observations then someone might be able to point you in the right direction.

Going by the posts on the forum (in the Repair section), Yamaha receivers seem to have a lot of power problems. Looking for those threads might give you some good starting points.

Jeremy thanks! The receiver I have is an MTR-3064. The device wont power on at all.

I am happy to take instructions on what points to check for what voltages etc. I have attached two photos. The top and bottom of the power board.

Let me know what the first steps are to checking this. I have prodded and poked my multimeter but without structure and understanding what output I should expect I have no idea how to see what is wrong.

I have also looked in the repair section. Couldn't find much. Maybe I am not looking properly.
