As I mentioned, yes, she explained that, yes, there's apparently only one way she wants the enclosures to be painted and it's a process she used to do herself, and it's expensive, and requires equipment, and...
Would there be an acceptable, much lower cost alternative that would look pretty much the same? Most probably. DItto for hand-assembling the boards.
That might look like a compromise, she said no, end of the story. It's her business, not ours.

And yes, part of the (unreasonable) value these days of her old pedals is in the history, "vintage" characteristic and just the collection factor. Re-starting a business with that would require not only the compromises we talked about, but also to invest in R&D to offer new stuff as well. A company can't stand still even when the products are good quality and well-regarded. That always wears off.

My idea would have been to "refactor" her existing gear for lower-cost production, sold in the market range for what could still be considered "boutique pedals" of this kind ($150-$200) and then possible have a very small volume production of totally handmade ones, possibly customizable, sold at a way higher price. And in parallel, developing new products.

But that's her business, not ours, not mine, it's her decision and she said no. Then again, from what I get, I think she doesn't really want to re-start any kind of commercial business anyway, in the usual sense. So, that's understandable she wouldn't even want to bother finding a way to do it.
