Where and what is this?

Proving that you learn something new every day, I learned today for the first time about this structure. Who knows what it is and where it is?

Nah...  Nothing to do with capacitor.

It is the biggest vertical waffle maker.  Very green.  During morning, you spray the waffle mix on the outside wall.  By noon, the sun would have cooked it.  Quality of course depends on the quality of your waffle mix, but it is very energy efficient.

Optional equipment includes auto waffle-mix sprayer and auto-oriented trailer that rotates the entire trailer to follow the Sun, sold separately of course.

Right: 2N3055 got it.

It is in Elephant and Castle in London, and is a monument to Michael Faraday, who was born nearby.

It contains an electricity substation for the London Underground, providing the DC traction supply for trains.

The original concept was apparently to have been a glass pyramid with mercury arc rectifiers visible inside. That would have been cool  :)

Unfortunately it was thought that glass would invite vandalism and the glowing light show of the rectifiers would distract drivers, so they went for a shiny metal box with a disco light show instead  :(

Well, I knew who Michael Faraday was anyway, and I doubt that anyone who doesn't would see that building and think, "that reminds me of Michael Faraday". Probably sounded like a good idea in committee on a boring Friday afternoon when nobody was paying attention.

The blurb says its stainless steel. That makes a really poor Faraday cage, so I guess that fits.

It is in Elephant and Castle in London
According to its Wikipedia page they chose Elephant and Castle because it was close to Faraday's birthplace; Newington Butts.

Butts. It's fun to be juvenile.

There's a smoothed version too.

I kid... this is actually "The Bean" in Chicago.  I suppose they'll have in common, some particular resonant modes on the interior...

Somehow every place name along the River Piddle seems to enhance the humour of the name, for reasons I can't quite identify. Also, its Penistone, not Peniston, gateway to the Peak District. I really hope there's a gym there to help people tone up their penis.

Most memorials seem irrelevant to the person they commemorate. I used to work next to http://hongkongthrumyeyes.com/2014/11/15/the-charles-k-kao-auditorium-at-the-hong-kong-science-park/ Was Charlie Kao especially into eggs? Is there some connexion between eggs and optical fibres?

Until it was renamed "Fugging" recently, there was a town in Austria named Fucking.

Yes. And the local brewery sold a light-coloured beer (ein Helles) named appropriately 'Fucking Hell'.
