YiHua 853D replacement iron safety question
« on: November 28, 2017, 07:35:24 pm »
Hi all, the original iron on my YiHua 853D solder station failed so I ordered a couple of cheap replacements from China (they were cheaper than a new element!)
The Irons heat up fine but the temp display stays at 1 degree. I checked the pins/wiring and the thermocouple & element pins are the same as the original iron.
Is it safe to use them as presumably the station would keep the element on all the time? or could the thermocouple be detected by maybe adding a resistor?
[Iron is 24V 60w]

You bought soldering iron with a wrong heating element. There are two types, one has thermistor, another has thermocouple.

It was supposed to be a direct replacement, safe to use for a while do you think?

As minimum, heating element will overheat and burn in a few minutes.
