You know you're old when.....

GlennSprigg:
Being an Invalid Pensioner, and having lost most things/abilities that I had, and being 'told' by others how stupid I am now...  :palm:

Neper:
When you know what C= stands for and you have connected an Amiga 3000T and an IBM PC via Arcnet.

harerod:
... your professor taught you Neper instead of dB as a ratio of dampening on transmission lines. *SCNR*

Neper:
I've been working with dB from the beginning but the Deutsche Bundespost guys who came to hook up our o/b van to their audio line still used meters calibrated in Neper.

That said, I'm old enough to remember the days when the vehicles of their telecom division were grey instead of magenta.  ;)

harerod:
Yes, when Deutsche Bundespost consisted of Gelbe Post, responsible for snail mail and Graue Post responsible for telephone. The former has become Deutsche Post, the latter Deutsche Telekom. Rumors that hint of them re-joining as Deutsche Kompost AG are just that...

On topic: I remember the days before ISDN, when one was tempted to use an illegal 9600bps Hayes modem, instead of the officially approved 300..2400bps modems. When I complained about that fact to a fellow computer club member, he looked me sternly in the eye and said: "at least our phone network works". I never understood what he meant, until I suffered some culture shock from exposure to U.S. telecom infrastructure.
