Makes me feel old when I realize some of the technologies I grew up with like VHS and CRTs are basically considered vintage now.   

Another thing that makes me feel old is when I bring up an old internet meme "All your base are belong to us" and realize that the meme is like 20 years old.   The word meme was not even a thing back then.

Coles in Australia have "Throwback Thursday" on the instore radio and I hear Carl Douglas' Kung Fu Fighting and Pussycats' Misssissippi. And I am hoping Rodriguez comes up.

But I really feel old when yet another old favourite is mangled in the name of advertising. I can forgive Microsoft for Start Me Up, but not forgiving Coles for ruining Status Quo's Deeper and Down. I really wanted to cut and paste the pointing finger signs they had. Just to make sure the middle finger was the pointing one. I just console myself with the thought the band probably made a bucket of money for their retirement years.

I remember the time when 1 TFLOPS was in the realm of the biggest supercomputers, nowadays even some mobile devices do more than that.

Those are way more popular nowadays than they used to be (see Tesla Powerwall for a popular brand), of course nowadays not only do we have far more advanced lighting technology but also plenty of things to power other than lights.

We lived "in the bush", 40km from the Perth GPO--------it's an "outer suburb" now!

We had a horse & cart, as Dad had eye troubles, so couldn't drive-----we couldn't afford a car, anyway.

Our first Winter, we lived in a tent before we built the house, initially, just "one big room", which was made with bush timber, as were the later bedrooms, & bathroom,  although Dad later built a new front room with milled timber.

Lighting was kero lamps, heating, initially, & mostly, in the large kitchen, which was the original "one room", we used the "Metters No 2 stove", which also did all the cooking, but we later had a couple of small cast iron "potbelly" stoves in the other rooms.
Firewood was no problem, from our 13.5 acres of mainly bush.

Our radio was a valve (tube) portable, which used a fair bit of current, so we had to " ration" the use of it to conserve the batteries.

We kids didn't think we had it bad------we loved it!

It was actually. I was rather surprised the other day to to discover it was coined in 1976. I knew it was coined by Richard Dawkins' in his book "The Selfish Gene" but I hadn't realised that book was that old. So "You know you're getting old when ..." you think of a book published in 1976 as being "recently published".
