Your favorite cables and why
« on: October 19, 2020, 10:45:15 am »
I was looking around for what kind of wire harnesses guys are using to route hardware to boards inside machines. I'm busy with a project that uses Teknic servo motors. These have molex minifit jr connectors on them that definitely aren't the worst connectors to work with but can be a pain in the butt to make up and install, especially when the mating connector is not visible or is in a tight spot. Anyway I feel like I don't have a good solution for this and in general I find wiring things together to be difficult, time consuming and sometimes confusing.

What kind of wiring you guys come across in your work and do you have any opinions and preferences regarding it?

For inside an enclosure I will use IDC type (with flat ribbon cable) if at all possible. I have occasionally used Molex SL, but stripping and crimping individual wires tends to get annoying. I'm only doing things at a hobby level, so I don't have an expensive crimper tool.
