My parents were only complaining about this only a few minutes ago :P Also gmail and a few other things.
I'm still able to access Youtube :-// but I block cookies, so maybe I get rotated to some other server.
EDIT: yep I'm reading that people are having success if they use a private browing session. Being logged in (or having ever been logged in) may be part of the issue, possible auth backend failure.

Now my father's laptop is saying that it's 2018 and their phones are exploding with email notif noises. Is some NTP going nasty out there?

I can't help but point out the pure and relevant lunacy of my refrigerator telling me this.
In all seriousness: I love watching big cloud flounder. It makes me happy that my current work isn't deeply entrenched with the Googs or Office 348, as some of my previous jobs were.
Mind you: the last big Office 347 outage also made a lot of phone provider infrastructure in Australia go haywire, so we didn't completely escape it. I wonder what other interesting follow-on effects we will see from Google auth going down >:D

FrAGILE development...

It's back now! ;D

Yes, back again. It was across the whole spectrum of their services: https://www.google.com/appsstatus#hl=en-GB&v=status (https://www.google.com/appsstatus#hl=en-GB&v=status) Should be interesting to read what happened.

Seems like you could reach their servers but their authentication services shit the bed.

My experience this morning.... I wanted to login to my YouTube account to post a video. Typed in my email address, "not recognized". I'm in Canada. So I reload the page, again type in my email after I quadruple check I haven't lost my mind... "not recognized". Did it another 3 or 4 times, not recognized.
Next I logged into the email account that I registered with YouTube and found a few recent messages from YouTube confirming that it was INDEED the correct address. So I wasn't losing my mind, that was the address I registered with for my username on that account.
Next, I decided to completely FLUSH CHROME Cache (delete all history files cookies, etc). Went back to YouTube.... Ok, this time it recognized my username (it didn't immediately say user doesn't exist) and let me input my password. After that, got to a page for 2-factor authentification saying it was going to text my cell phone. HOWEVER, at the top it said too many attempts to login and therefore will wait about 1 hour to allow me to do it again (and I never got the text). |O
I waited an hour, tried again to log in... it accepted my username no problem, it let me type my password no problem, it then went to the 2-factor authentification page and sent me a code by text that I then typed in, and I was back to the usual.
So something definitely was going on. In Canada. I had no problem viewing YouTube but logging in was an issue, and a strange one at that.

Now you have experience and you will not be nervous.
Do you know what we do in Russia if the lights suddenly go out? We look out the window to see if the neighbors windows are lite. :)

Of course it's Putin's fault. Just give CNN a minute to get on the dead horse.

It was most likely some poor fucker at Google screwed up a change somewhere that had side effects.
