Title: Question about YouTube Multiple uploads Policy ?
Post by: AllTheGearNoIdea on January 19, 2019, 09:24:12 am
Hello All

I have my own YouTube channel, I use it mainly to just record what I am doing on the bench I have no plans to monetise the channel now or anytime in the future.

I shot and edited some footage of a friends Car project and let my friend have the raw video footage to make his own video as he also has a small channel.  I have edited my own version of the footage and want to upload it to my channel.  I also want to give him my edited video as featured on my channel for him to upload on his channel. He would just remove my channel introduction and insert his own, with no other alterations. So potentially there will be two identical videos with different creators loaded to YouTube.

So my question is, is this allowed and will it invoke any type of automated strike from the God of YouTube.  Me and my friend don’t care about sharing or copyright etc of our work as it is just for fun and not for profit etc.

Thanks Regards Chris

if you both upload it under the 'creative commons licence' i don't see it causing any problem

There is a combo box for selecting the licence when you upload it.

That would mean giving the footage away to others too. As far as I'm aware you can license your footage to anyone and everyone, which includes a single friend. I'm not sure how Youtube deals with it, though. As long as you're not part of programs which automatically scan content, you should probably be fine.

Correct. it would be open for all to use.

You're probably fine just uploading under youtube licence.
Since neither of you will claim copyright on it.
I just meant that uploading under CC removes any doubt

That is great advice I had not heard of this common licence.  Thanks for taking the time to  answer my questions.

Best regards Chris

The automated strike system on Youtube is called "content ID" and is something you have to request for your channel.

I'd also ensure you link to your friends channel in the description, and have him do the same.
