Youtube Targetting Cryptocurrency Channels?

<< < (5/22) > >>

Ed.Kloonk:
As an aside, the big tell was the failure of Zuck's attempt to introduce crypto to Facebook.

Creators on y/t are told they are not monetised. So they get paid via crypto. Y/t not getting a slice. Tantrum. Accounts deleted.

Waaa.

I somehow doubt that this is Youtube's individual thing and not some widespread campaign or government pressure.

Halcyon:
Dave, I know you already upload to other services apart from YouTube, but perhaps now would be a good time to test out using non-YouTube content and see what the uptake/viewer rate is like. Previously it would "suicide" for a content creator, but perhaps YouTube should be a secondary (and incomplete source) of your valuable content.

I know I've said it before but I'll say it again, I'd prefer not to use YouTube. I already block all their ads (including their pre-roll content) and I don't sign in because I have no intention of using any of their features. When I want to watch a particular channel, I'll manually go to their page.

better give youtube some commission on the mailbag

send them some game boys and a calculator

Ed.Kloonk:
I been thinking about this in the last few weeks as I watch content from y/t.

Too many content creators are saying in their videos that either the party's over or about to be.

The run time of content that I am subscribed to has dropped 50%. Most of that is complaining about the algorithm.

The funny thing is, years ago, on this forum, I sledged Dave for dropping the xml/rss stuff which I downloaded directly in favour of the wanky youtube ecosystem. Back in those days, my connection to the information super highway was insufficient to watch youtube in a resolution I could tolerate. The podcatcher was my subscription feed.

Now, I'm not blaming content creators or casting aspersions because on the whole, Y/T has been very good for Eevblog. But now, the company seems to be erratic or perhaps even rudderless in assuring creators and their viewers of a future on the platform despite some marvellous previous achievements by what Y/T would have you believe were partners.

It's been suggested that Y/T are doing a Myspace. I'm not so sure about that. Myspace failed because they failed to keep users from being drawn to a shiny new object. Youtube is kicking off creators, without any regard to any previous promises of financial utopia for creators. This course of action can only cause angst for the users at best and class action at worst.

Youtubers that have already been demonetised for (((hate speech))) have mostly prospered by reaching out directly to retailers and advertisers who aren't so skittish about the content they are associated with. And this is the thing: fringe content providers have achieved what Google, with all the clever internet smarts, can't do, connect advertisers to buyers. It's all Google was ever built for and they have failed at it.

The bottom line is if you have a vested interest in Google and/or Youtube, realise you need to sever the relationship before they do.

If you have a Youtube subscription list, download it to a file on you harddrive. That way, you have the control to re-find the content in which you enjoyed as it vanishes.

Gmail accounts. Download all your email to a drive now, if you haven't already. Alphabet has a habit of killing things off and once youtube is dead, they will come after Gmail. Don't get caught.
