What the hell?

I could understand science channels getting wacked by the algorithm for containing fire and all that, but how the hell does it connect cryptocurrencies with something dangerous.

Okay you can buy a service of murdering someone on the dark web using bitcoins, but you can do that with real money too, so should any video about money be banned then?

It's likely just the AI learning that there's a link between cryptocurrency and illegal activity.

Google will probably have to manually white-list cryptocurrency, then it will all go away.

Unless this was deliberate, I wouldn't rule that out.

Looks like it, as the free inputs/complaints will be feed back to the AI, and then it will re-learn again.  :-DD

Might be some moral crusaders mass reporting videos because crypto is gambling / pyramid scheme :blah:

Or the above combined with somebody at YT deciding that they are right.

Currently there are lots of scams regarding crypto currency. Due to a ruling in the Netherlands Facebook is obliged to remove ads which promote purchase of Bitcoins. I guess this has awakened the people from Youtube as well.

Facebook  banned crypto adds for a while, claiming there were too many scams promoted. Now they will allow if you pass muster of their scrutiny. I can openly wonder what that means for people who want to compete directly against Facebook's own crypto.  Look for one of the Google/Alphabet companies to release their own crypto offering in the near future.

maybe an advertisement robot got scared and did not know what to recommend as a commercial interest for a channel recommending you save money and invest to get rich. (burglary machine malfunctioned).

these people... wont buy anything... shut it down immediately...

stick a Wix or Squarespace in there and you will be alright (needs to be something monthly so they think persistent cash flow). As usual, things do not work smoothly without kickbacks and grease. Throw some hip shoes into your mailbag to stay safe!

There was a time when the written word was banded and books burnt unless they happened to support the church.

Now the word of the church has been reincarnated though a few companies that deem it their role to decide what can or cannot be written or said. We have to protect the children, the good from evil, the minority from the majority, and punish all those because a few abuse. It's wonderful to see how the age of information is being used to limit and control that information as every minority finds something to whine about and the majority sits silent.

I guess they want us to give to creators using the "join" button instead of crypto. Let's give them the opposite - not only do we use crypto to give to creators, we have the creators using Bittorrent to distribute their content!
Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

Cryptocurrency lesson 0: Altcoins and Bitcoin are not the same thing.

That's basically what LBRY does.

Not quite. There is a sh*tload of mis-information floating around on the internet. Up to the point where vaccinations which haven proven themselves for decades are being questioned and people let their children die unnecessarily because people fall for the mis-information. The 2010's probably go into the history books as the 'internet FUD years'. It used to be the task of the impartial journalists to seperate facts from fiction and that void needs to be filled again.

Well it's been a few days now and the situation just seems to be getting worse.
Looks like my crypto video will have to be my first non-youtube exclusive.

It seems that Youtube warned creators about this last month:

I can't see how this is anything but deliberate and intended now.

Of course it is intentional. The platform treats it's (non CNN) creators like dirt.

As an aside, the big tell was the failure of Zuck's attempt to introduce crypto to Facebook.

Creators on y/t are told they are not monetised. So they get paid via crypto. Y/t not getting a slice. Tantrum. Accounts deleted.

Waaa.

I somehow doubt that this is Youtube's individual thing and not some widespread campaign or government pressure.

Dave, I know you already upload to other services apart from YouTube, but perhaps now would be a good time to test out using non-YouTube content and see what the uptake/viewer rate is like. Previously it would "suicide" for a content creator, but perhaps YouTube should be a secondary (and incomplete source) of your valuable content.

I know I've said it before but I'll say it again, I'd prefer not to use YouTube. I already block all their ads (including their pre-roll content) and I don't sign in because I have no intention of using any of their features. When I want to watch a particular channel, I'll manually go to their page.

I been thinking about this in the last few weeks as I watch content from y/t.

Too many content creators are saying in their videos that either the party's over or about to be.

The run time of content that I am subscribed to has dropped 50%. Most of that is complaining about the algorithm.

The funny thing is, years ago, on this forum, I sledged Dave for dropping the xml/rss stuff which I downloaded directly in favour of the wanky youtube ecosystem. Back in those days, my connection to the information super highway was insufficient to watch youtube in a resolution I could tolerate. The podcatcher was my subscription feed.

Now, I'm not blaming content creators or casting aspersions because on the whole, Y/T has been very good for Eevblog. But now, the company seems to be erratic or perhaps even rudderless in assuring creators and their viewers of a future on the platform despite some marvellous previous achievements by what Y/T would have you believe were partners.

It's been suggested that Y/T are doing a Myspace. I'm not so sure about that. Myspace failed because they failed to keep users from being drawn to a shiny new object. Youtube is kicking off creators, without any regard to any previous promises of financial utopia for creators. This course of action can only cause angst for the users at best and class action at worst.

Youtubers that have already been demonetised for (((hate speech))) have mostly prospered by reaching out directly to retailers and advertisers who aren't so skittish about the content they are associated with. And this is the thing: fringe content providers have achieved what Google, with all the clever internet smarts, can't do, connect advertisers to buyers. It's all Google was ever built for and they have failed at it.

The bottom line is if you have a vested interest in Google and/or Youtube, realise you need to sever the relationship before they do.

If you have a Youtube subscription list, download it to a file on you harddrive. That way, you have the control to re-find the content in which you enjoyed as it vanishes.

Gmail accounts. Download all your email to a drive now, if you haven't already. Alphabet has a habit of killing things off and once youtube is dead, they will come after Gmail. Don't get caught.

 :)
