Youtube user interface since yesterday
« on: June 09, 2015, 08:22:04 am »
Congratulations to all of us who use Youtube on desktop browser client!

We have been awarded with a new Youtube interface - which is SO good - that I am kinda speechless.
Yet another improvement by Google.

Now the top menu which said Videos, Playlists, Channels is missing.
It seems that there is no substitution for the Videos menu - where I was able to click and see all videos in chronological order.
Even though this feature was painful to use, i.e. if you want to see some video back in time - you need to click the Load More button 1000 times - but anyhow it was working.

Funilly enough, if you are not logged in Youtube - and your just watching as a guest - you can see all the menus: Home, Videos, Playlists, ....

I am missing something here?
Can somebody help?

Now on EEVBlog we have sections such as Popular Videos, Multimeter Reviews, etc....

I really cannot find a section with all the videos in chronological order.

Interesting enough - mjlorton's channel has a bit different interface. It has a section named uploads, which kinda brings you up to something like the all videos in chronological order page.

A few other Youtube channels I am watching have various links and section.

I don't have my own Youtube channel and I don't know the settings, but Dave, could you please (if it depends on you) introduce the 'Uploads' section - same as mjlorton's page? And in this way - somehow try to fight the really good improvements made by Google?

Sometimes I wonder, if companies like Google remember that there are still 'billions' of users using desktop computers with browsers. I also wonder - who decided that a default view of all videos on a channel in chronological order is not necessary?

Who's making some decisions? How? On what basis?

OK.

Self correction - I was fast on conclusions ....
If you click on Popular Uploads - the you can choose to sort the video in chronological order instead of Most popular order.

Also, if you click on Multimeter reviews - you can see the 'old' user interface where you have all the menus on top....

So, it seems that just the homepage of the channel is changed for good.

At least on the desktop you can still actually watch videos. On my Android phone the Youtube app is broken for about a month now, it doesn't play any video (Cyanogenmod 4.4.2 on a Galaxy S3 mini). I can only watch Youtube using http://m.youtube.com  :palm:

Same thing happens to me. See screenshot.

Top one is when signed in, bottom one is not. They were different browsers, but it is the being signed in thing that causes it to break.

Mine currently looks as it should. That is to say that it looks like the "Signed Out" picture, but I am signed in.
I wonder if it is a proxy based thing for now. I'll have a look when I get home.

I don't know about that, but the removal of groups from my subscriptions page makes youtube almost unusable.

Interesting point is that channel pages had changed in different ways.
For example, The Post Apocalyptic Inventor channel now looks almost empty.
No menus, and if you choose Uploads from the dropdown box - you see a total of 3 videos.
All the rest of the videos had disappeared from the this poor guy homepage.

Dave, you say nothing changed on your side - but the screenshots from "Stupid Beard" is exactly what happened.
It is not just the problem of finding things chronologically.
It is a problem of just browsing your channel at random.

Now we just see, "probably" just what Google proposes to us.
The only other way is to search for a specific video with the search box.

But for sure, the option to open All Videos, sort them in some way and just browse them until you like something to watch or re-watch is missing or is hidden.

It is a nasty thing and usually such changes mark a big move to something.
Just wait and we'll see what Google have in store for us.

Probably - something to do with the payed subscription thing, which is coming on ....
