Zebra strips
(1/1)
Chemist_Guy:
I was today years old when I finally realized that Zebra strips is spelled the same way as the Zebra animal.
I had heard Dave speak many many times about Zebra strips said in his typical Aussie accent "Zeh-bruh" and never made the connection.
My very stupid question is do Americans call them "Zee-bra" strips?
Psi:
I was curious so I went and found a video of him saying it.
He says it as 'Zeb-bra strips'

Halcyon:
American's pronounce it "zee-bra", Australian's (and many other English speaking countries) say "zeb-ra" (for both the animal and the electronics component).
We also pronounce the letter "Z" as "zed" not the American "zee".

(I’m American.) Why wouldn’t we call them “zee-bruh” strips? They’re named after the animal, thanks to the alternating black stripes, and we call the animal “zee-bruh”, so…

I thought zeebra was a piece of female clothing
