Double popcorn for a double feature movie drama!

I don’t expect Meta vs the intellectual property crowd bringing us anything unexpected. Business as always.

But there is another part to this story: the uproar among torrent users about Meta being a leecher. From the same people, who don’t give a second thought about leeching off YouTube or Reddit, or using Imgur and X as a free image storage. Can you smell this? Sniff… sniff… is this an odour of double standards? I don’t want to be misunderstood. There is a huge difference and, if we dive into nuances, the distinction isn’t hard to see. But from what I see in talks, also supported by my previous experience with that group, there rarely is any deeper philosophical thought or cool consideration in the reaction.

Between the lines I also see something sad. Meta employees have ethical doubt not about Meta’s business model and practices. What makes them concerned is… copyright infringement. 🤦

Any link/torrent?  >:D
Do you have a 100 TB drive lying around? ;)

Maybe they're following Google's new motto: "Don't Be evil".

Were they, though?
The news report mentions seeding, which if true certainly is going to get them in obvious legal trouble. Unauthorized distribution, thank you very much.

In a recent lawsuit, Meta has been accused of using pirated books to train its AI models, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s approval. As per Ars Technica, the lawsuit filed by authors including Ta-Nehisi Coates and Sarah Silverman in a California federal court

From what I heard, the seeding was only minimal. More like an accidental seeding during a download than actual sharing. Legally that still counts as ditributing copies, but it doesn’t make it not leeching. Certainly what people, whom comments I’ve seen, think. And this is what counts for that paragraph.
