So Microsoft gives Windows license (or activation) for free, which is what they have been doing for... what, at least 15 years, and for some weird reason someone posts it in "r/Piracy" tagged with "humor", when it has absolutely nothing to do neither with piracy nor humor, and people are surprised that Microsoft's AI knows to advertise their own product as well? What is the point of this thread?

It doesn't matter if you get a Win11 licence for 'free' because of an older licence you own. Usually you need a valid product key to activate Windows. And to answer your question: irony.

What irony? Microsoft does this on purpose. It's their business strategy. I remember people were surprised about this turn (of offering licenses and/or activations free-of-cost to developers and others) in... 2009 maybe?

They make their money from service subscriptions, and (decreasingly) selling Windows to consumers large-scale (e.g. bundled with computer sales). For them, giving it away for free for developers and power users is only good because those developers are then more happy to develop software for Windows, or push Windows in their organizations.
