Changing comment/value visibility of multiple schematic parts
« on: October 27, 2018, 05:29:37 pm »
With CS 1.5, I'm trying to make the comments and values of multiple parts invisible. But whatever I have tried so far, I just don't see the visibility setting in the inspector after selecing all parts. Is this a bug, or is there a different way to do this that doesn't involve the inspector?

It's a bit convoluted but here is how you make the comments hidden with multiple parts.  I'm using 1.3 but I don't believe this behavior has changed.

1. Select the components
2. Go to SCH Inspector tab
3. At the top of the window you will click on the link that says "all types of objects"
4. A dialog box will show up.   Select "Display Only" and then select "Part".  Press "OK"
5. Select the link that says "Part Comment" located in the middle of the window.
6. Select the link that says "Click here to display all objects"
7. Now you can check the box that says "Hide" and the comments will disappear.

So yea, it's possible but pretty lame.

Thanks for the reply! In 1.5, it wasn't necessary to go up and select "Parts". After selecting all components and opening the inspector, the "part comment" link already exists and after clicking it, it is possible to hide the comment.

But I suppose to hide the part values, the only way is to click each individual part and hide it there  :(

Are part values inserted as "user parameters" in your workflow?  If not, what are you using?

If you have more than just components on your schematic you will most likely have to select "Parts".  I did my testing with a schematic that has components, wires, and nets so I had to tell the inspector what items I wanted to edit.

Yes, you are right. If the selection contains things other than parts, you need to narrow it down to parts.

I have also found out how to hide the value. Similar to the comment, you need to click on the hyperlink corresponding to the value, and it brings the same dialog where you have to check "hide".
