Title: Exporting a DXF/DWG of the PCB?
Post by: stumpja on September 01, 2020, 02:58:24 pm
Hi guys,

I recently started using Circuit Studio. I have completed 2 projects at this point, and I'm getting the hang out it, but I still have a lot to learn about the software. My background is working with Mentor PADS Pro, so this is a big change.

I have a question about exporting PCB files. I can do gerbers, and even export a nice STEP file for mechanical review, but I would like to be able to export a DXF or a DWG file for part placement review. My typcial workflow is to export a DXF to send to an ME to review board outline, and part placement. The dxf includes assembly outline information, and more importantly through hole pad placement, so my ME can not only verify the part location, but also the footprint.

Maybe there are better ways to do this, of which, I'm open to hearing about, but my ME has requested either a DXF or DWG of the PCB layout, so if there is a way to do this natively within Circuit Studio, that would be awesome. I have yet to figure it out.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi,

If I want a DWG of my CircuitStudio board layout I've done the following in the past:-

On board layout, OUTPUTS tab then ASSEMBLY DRAWINGS.........and print to PDF. Then extract the sheet required to a single page PDF.
Then, convert the PDF to DWG via https://www.zamzar.com/convert/pdf-to-dwg/ (https://www.zamzar.com/convert/pdf-to-dwg/)
(or any other PDF to DWG conversion website).

Ian.
