At the moment there are 1191 "Likes". The page have been around since 2009 so not very likely it will more than double in a month. Anyway, I like it and hope to win!   :)

Yeah I was that 1191rst person to like the page. Greece is excluded also.
So if anybody from this forum wins the price, remember to thank all those unsung heroes who helped reach the goal ;p

I like the joke within the rules: " if the selected entrant is a Canadian resident, that entrant will be required to answer a mathematical skill-testing question, without assistance of any kind (whether mechanical or otherwise), within the timeframe provided above"

It may not be a joke, some countries have rules regarding free giveaways. If you add some sort of question to the giveaway it chances under the law from a lottery to a competition and different rules apply.

You see it quite often on mail-in competitions where they make you fill in the missing word in a sentence.

It's the same here in the UK - a "test of skill" comes under different rules to a purely random lottery.

There's no rule about how difficult the "test" has to be, though, so they're invariably trivial. It's just a stupid pantomime, needed only because the law is ridiculous.

No hungary! :(

BTW a year ago i won a probe from Tektronix. It was a test of some questions (regarting to their history and some basic things) for a TDS series scope. A free probe alwasy comes handy :).

It's a pity that they combine the contest with FB  >:(

I and (many engineers i know) would never come on FB , not even for a nice scope.

I guess i'll stick with my trusty TDS-320 & my DS1102E , and maybe hope that Hameg doesn't make the same mistake.

Ohh: The extra question added for the contest , would be required here also (else it would be an illegal random lottery), Question could be : "What color does a banana have".

Someone in marketing has to meet their PKI's for increasing their social media numbers. Their bonus, promotion, or continued employment probably depends on it.
It doesn't matter if none of their customers actually use it, that's entirely not the point ::)
(and yes, I'm being serious, that's probably what it is!)

United States (excluding New York, Florida, and Rhode Island).
Why the states are out?

Probably something to do with laws about free giveaways in those states. They might require extra fees or have rules on fairness  or some PC BS like that.

No New Yorkers? What's up with that? Guess that means I can't buy any of their products either. Fagetaboudit!

We didn't reach our goal of 2,500 Facebook fans, so we aren't giving away the oscilloscope. Sorry, guys! But don’t feel too disheartened; we’ll try to find a way to make the oscilloscope part of a future promotion. Thanks for being such loyal fans!

Bad in that someone doesn't get a scope, but good in that the marketing droids at Agilent don't get their stupid Facebook quota. Engineers don't use facebook anyway, but they don't care, they want to meet their social media KPI so they can get their bonus at their next performance review. They'll just spend ten times the money on some other way to get the numbers.

So it would be a good plan for everyone who 'liked' the Agilent page to 'unlike' it again - then there's more incentive for them to launch another marketing giveaway...
