Extech is looking for 3000 followers to it's twitter account, at which point they'll pick one and give them a FLIR i3 color IR camera (google's telling me it's worth about $1200). AFAIK, eligibility is worldwide. They're at around 350 now, so a lot of us get a chance to win!

Extech rules when it comes to promotional contests - hands down!

They do pretty good, but Agilent just gave away 3 x DSOX3000 scopes in exchange for a review!
Dave.

Oh crap, thanks for the reminder...
-
I'm sure that a scope for a review is a good deal, but for time spent vs. value gained, I'll bet the clear winner is Extech on this one ;) Even if it takes all 2754 people a whole 4 seconds to get to twitter and click "follow", you're still only looking at 3 man-hours of labor spent for a $1200 item. I'll take $400/hr any day :)

But an $8K scope is a much better and more useful toy!

Better and more useful, yes. But as a toy that camera would be awesome!
I'd like to see you dress up as The Predator and run around the woods with your scope!

What a joke. At current rate they might as well say "we'll give away a Flir camera when the hell freezes over".

I've always thought giveaways like this probably don't produce much in the way of quality leads - the vast majority of respondents aren't likely to be potential buyers if they don't win.

It's a typical big company social media metric mentality. Social media people need to justify their existence.
They think numbers matter.
Although granted, Extech do quite a reasonable job at it compared to most.

For the 200th I was hoping to get the Fluke $12K IR meter and drop it from 2m, as well as run around at night with it and do all sorts of other stuff, but "the powers that be" vetoed it by the sounds of it. And the unit I was supposed to be given was the lame-arse Australian version has it's night vision hobbled because the stupid US government say it's a controlled export. I wasn't even allowed to tear it down, and they were greatly concerned that if I dropped it it might crack open and I might accidentally see the super secret US government paranoia controlled insides ::)

If they ever replace this terrible look on the display of their DMM, I could possibly start to favor them just a bit.
The long and narrow digits that looks like pumpkins, its far away from my likings. :)
-
Pumpkin digits or no, a free IR camera is still a cool prize.

And is not a bad tool if you want to check if and how your heatsink sinks heat.

What product is that?
Alexander.

1 in 3000 chance of $1200 worth of equipment? 40 cents to follow them? I have had better deals from people trying increasing their feedback numbers on ebay.

I completely understand where you're coming from, but since I do follow them I can say they hardly ever post. Nothing like, say, adafruit who blasts 5 once a day. I can't even remember the last time extech 'tweeted'. Considering that, it takes about a second to follow them. If you win, great! If not, did you really lose anything? To each his own, though. I could really use a thermal camera so...;)

At the rate they are getting followers the FLIR i3 will be a very outdated product before anyone wins one....

I signed up. it's just a click to follow them. Now I wait..... .... ...

I started reading this thread today and thought that I would have missed out. Getting 3000 followers. Surely they could in 5 months. I guess not. I just became their 438th follower. If someone gets into this thread in a couple months and follows, please post their current follower count. It would be interesting to see how long this takes. :)

I wonder how long it takes to create 2500 twitter accounts :D
-
Yep. Its going to take ages for them to get 3k!
