Win a slightly used Keysight DSOX1204G 100MHz 4CH scope with function generator!
As per the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhPt4xERGfo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhPt4xERGfo)
Post ONCE and ONCE ONLY in this forum thread to enter.
Seriously, ONCE ONLY, or I'll delete your entry.
Entries close soon-ish.
You must have a decent number of posts on the forum over some time in order to enter. Let's say 20ish posts, Dave's decision is final.
One person will be picked randomly using the Wobulator program, and that will be done on a live video.
In theory there shouldn't be any limitation on which country can enter, but I would not rule out issues there.
You may be responsible for import taxes and charges based on you country and any stupid local import laws you might have. If you don't like this, don't enter.
Do NOT post or comment in this thread if you are not entering!

OK, lets hope Wobulator likes me.
-
Is that an African or European Wobulator?
-
I'm an engineering student in Queensland and in my spare time I help design the electrical system on a solar race car team. I'm currently using an old HP 54603B 60Mhz scope I scored on EBay a while back. It's last calibration sticker is from 2010 when it was in the Nokia Siemens offices which is neat.
Something with four channels and proper CAN/LIN protocol decoding makes my mouth water. Fingers crossed! :)
-
If i stand on the roof of my houseI might be able to see keysight from here!
-
"ONCE and ONCE ONLY" What? That's what you said to post! :)

I would like to enter!
Desperately in need of a better scope (have a good analog one, but only a handheld DSO with very limited capability) but wouldn't say no to a newer multimeter or power supply either!

That is for shure.

Hi, 18-poster here, but registered a few years ago (a lurker type) :)
-
I'm in!
Hi Dave, you said to mention why I'd like to get some of the gear you're talking about in the video. So here goes. It's actually a bit longer, but if you want a shorter version, let me know.
You see, when I was a kid, maybe 4, 5, 6, I used to be into geeky stuff. Well, there was no real "geek culture" back then in eastern Europe like there is today, no Internet, nothing like that. But as I was usually sat in front of the humongous black and white tv (already antique in the 90s) I got into this one tv show (see below) that showed computer games. They featured electronic music a lot. Years later as a teenager I found out they were using something called "analog synths". Being broke AF I was never able to afford any of those as they cost a million polish zloty but might have as well cost a million dollars, hell, I wasn't even able to diy any of that stuff for parts being too expensive. But I really got into it, started frequenting the synth diy mailing list, reading schematics, learning electronics (I didn't go to university for that), theorizing about how circuits could work, coming up with ideas that I haven't seen anyone else execute. In parallel I also got into 8 bit computers and even got a Commodore 128 (an antique as well, we were well into Pentium days by then) and started thinking what it would be like if Commodore computers got another upgrade. But afterwards, as an adult, I had neither the time nor means to get into that stuff, and this kind of got put on the back burner.
Then 2020 happened. I was one of the first people to get it in my area. I was basically in bed for 5 months and nearly died. In the meantime, my cra**y landlord tried to dehouse me, and I couldn't get a job. A year later, after a year of shallow breathing I finally got one of my lungs back to mostly full function and the other one is going to bounce back as well, apparently. I was really scared I would stay super ill for the rest of my life, as pretty much every part of my body and every organ got affected negatively, and I still get regular "long covid" relapses.
So that got me thinking. I never followed up on that passion from way back when I was this small kid sitting in front of the B&W tv. And if I had died back in 2020, that would be it, no one would do this stuff, and I would have never found out what it's like. So I should start building analog electronics for music. I should try to make things that are in my head that no one tried before. And I want to build another 8 bit computer, one of my own. I started looking around, but most of the bench gear out there is just pretty bad for this sort of use especially if you limit yourself to the kind of budget I have. So if you wanna send some dumpster junk my way, it would be more than appreciated, and I could finally get the ball rolling on some things that a lot other people could enjoy, giving back to the communities that taught me so much about electronics.
Also, just wanted to wish good luck to all the other people entering the contest!
And here's the show I was talking about:

Embarrassed to say never used a scope, always a DMM guy who used Logic Analyzers to go one step lower since I play with digital a lot.
-
Hi Dave!
Writing to you from hotel quarantine in Brisbane!
I have my soldering iron, uCurrent, breadboards, multimeter and cheap logic analyser here with me to make the most of my time. An Oscilloscope would make the world of difference for me! The uCurrent is great, but plugging it into an Oscilloscope would be a game changer!
Thanks mate!

My lab is currently full of "budget" gear. Only in the last couple of years I've started getting "decent" (but still entry level) equipment but I'm still far from the kind of stuff I need. What I have is enough for repairs, sure, but every time I want to design something and/or characterize my own projects it's a hell of a struggle.

Been a hobbyist and loved electronics since 5th grade, but ended up a software developer as a career so haven't really been able to get in-depth learning my true love of electronics hardware. I've been wanting to buy a scope for some years, but hadn't pulled the trigger since it's a big investment and I'm indecisive on what I want. When I can't decide, I tend to do nothing. Winning this would be awesome as I wouldn't have to decide anything, lol!
-
I'm in.
Iv been interested in electronics since i was a little boy. In recent years i've managed to gather bunch of old, as well as new components, circuits, etc. Basically whole shelf worth of (i can provide pictures). However main thing im missing is actual equipment. The best thing iv got is an multimeter i wrote about in my previous posts, and one of those cheap 20$ DIY oscilloscopes. But its relatively useless. And an actual oscilloscope, especially in current situation with covid affected economy, seem like only a dream. So i would really fancy a proper one.

I'm out. Re-listening to your video, this thread is not drawn but "Dave discretion" only, with a hint of being a needy student or something.
And I can appreciate that. Also it means I do not stand a chance without being dishonest, I am just a hobbyist. So I'm out. Sorry for the trouble.
Best luck to the rest of you

I've been trying to troubleshoot a lot of problems that need a decent scope. I tried with a 15 year old Bitscope (serial port based instrument), but it just won't do.
I'm hoping to get lucky and win a scope, because at the moment there is no work (was teaching international students here in Sydney) and therefore no income.

Hi Dave,
My name is Glib and I am a part of a family-like group of scientists working on cancer therapy using genetically modified viruses at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Ottawa, Canada. Being experts in virology and immunology allowed us to quickly shift our focus and work on fighting the Covid-19. Ever since pandemic started we tested thousands of chemicals to assess their ability to help us with fighting the coronavirus and results are looking very promising. On top of my love for science, I am very passionate about electronics. I don’t have professional education in this field besides from what I’ve learned online and from textbooks. I am mostly interested in equipment repair since we have ancient custom equipment that’s being used on a daily basis and it needs constant maintenance, but it was built in the 80-90s and the service was discontinued years ago. Constant need to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components pushed me to learn more and more about electronics. I don’t have much equipment home though. I have a 3d printer that I've been using to print face shields and face mask holders for the hospital workers (https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=2056519&fbclid=IwAR0ILk4oQ6o0BhEuhnIk9L06XGk4tViCGgxNEfrFkReN6rOh3ZH0-i1HU94). I am constantly designing and printing custom tools/parts/adapters/spacers and etc to fit the needs of the lab and make our life easier. I designed, 3d printed and assembled a power supply, I don’t have a proper signal generator in my workbench so I’m using an arduino instead which has very limited capabilities. Also, my oscilloscope is $20 DSO 138 which I guess is better than nothing but it’s close to being useless compared to an actual oscilloscope. To analyze power supplies I have to use an old broken heating element from my oven as a load and my multimeter that I got on ebay is older than I am. Even though my tools are very limited, it never stopped me from repairing all kinds of equipment and finishing many projects for personal use.
Winning in this competition will be a huge help for me because there’s only so little I can do with my limited tools.
Thank you for the opportunity and for reading my unnecessary long message.

Hello, I'm in
I'm a software developer from Romania and I want to make a TENS/AudioStim hat for the RPi Zero W or even a new device. The goal would be to use a API server on the Pi in VR games (running on Quest/Quest2) to stream audio (act as a second sound card) to make you feel something on your skin (maybe below the waist for start). Some test gear would be really useful, DSOX1204G is a great scope (especially since I will be working with opamps and the improved howland pump circuit for current drive). I learned a lot from the Keysight channel these days.
Thanks

I am an ITE student, I started with no bases in mathematics, initially the impact was devastating but I am doing it. Any tools would be useful.

I’m in. The forum has been a great help.

May the dice be with me!

I'm in! Second year EE student. Not seen a single resistor in Uni yet, let alone an oscilloscope. I already have a Rigol for my personal projects, yet I'm not going to say no to a Keysight!

"ONCE and ONCE ONLY" What? That's what you said to post! :)
WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

I'm wondering if this is already closed, but if not, I'm in! Wouldn't mind something digital to complement my 2445A so I can find a new home for my 453...
(hopefully the quality of my posts regarding reverse-engineering some PSU calibration data makes up for the lower number... :) ).
-
The post from EEVBLOG four posts above was the official end, as that was the announcement of the winner*.
McBryce.
* I don't think a chicken dinner is actually included in the prize.

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!
This is Dave telling everyone that the giveaway is OVER and that Cerebus is the winner.

Probably should have locked the thread?
-
This thread was created at 3:30 am (US East time) and in less than 30 min was done!!!
This giveaway should last at least a couple of days (of course with a different 'rule').
Why do a Rush Giveaway Overnight (for many people, whole USA)?
This is just a feedback, take it easy...
The thread was open from march 16 to april 14, it was open for almost a month

The thread was open from march 16 to april 14, it was open for almost a month
Maybe some people did not realize that the "rule" was: The FIRST person to post 'ONCE ONCE ONLY'.
Could be "open" for 1+ year and received 1M posts, doesn't matter, was considered as the winner the post number 8, after less than 30 minutes.
The winner was selected at random on a livestream using a program that selected a random commenter :-//
-
What are you talking about? What summary? Copy what? The rules were explained in the corresponding YouTube video linked in the first post.

Ok, I researched what happened and I'm Wrong, sorry for this confusion.
