Would NZ customs still charge a great tax/GST/import fee even if Australia is its neighboring/sister country? ???
Well alright then, I wont bother to join the competition because I don't have that much money to pay to NZ customs as I'm still a hobbyist (soon to be an EE).

Tell them it's a gift, or a repair,  or any BS they deserve  :--

An import fee for something FREE? what would they charge ?   $00.00 + GST?   :palm:

The sender can declare it's worth ZERO or parts salvage, stuff not available in NZ

I would call NZ customs and ask about it and see what they can do,

and get their name and position, and some sort of written or recorded proof,
in case some clipboard wielding hero changes their mind on the day.

Dave: remove the fuse (or even better: replace it by a broken one), take out the the power cable and declare it as a non working unit with a value of $100.
So even if there is an inspection at customs the unit will not power up, thus they will not be able to discuss the value.
To make it even more believable, send manuals and probes with a  separate small package a few days later and declare as $50 (so it will usually slip through customs).

This would be cool. And this way the winner wouldn't turn it on before... taking it apart a little bit.  >:D

It's amazing that Dave is giving this away. You can't expect him to break the law for your benefit too.

I agree.

I believe Dave will help out as much as is reasonable - but don't expect him to do anything dodgy or spend hours chasing around for a one-off benefit.  I cannot see him doing anything that might attract negative attention, especially with exporting and importing.  He has a business that does not need more hassles than is due.

From that angle I agree   :-+

It still sux that the winner has not purchased anything
nor bringing something into NZ that impacts jobs, industry or the economy had they bought a locally made equivalent,
a tech product which isn't made there anyway

It's a prize or a gift, why should customs break a citizen's balls about it and demand a cut?    :bullshit:     :--

Just because it's so easy to divert and really hard to prove. Every one will just say it's a gift .... If everyone would be honest the world would be much easier but also boring  :palm:

I could really use a scope like this right now ... but I don't think I would stand a chance.

Yes I agree there are too many ... I watched everyone!
Everyone I would give the scope to I left a "thanked" to let them now ;-)
There are a lot of very good videos and also a lot of good reasons .... This will be very hard for Dave and David to decide.
Good luck to everyone  :-+

We were discussing it and I think it will likely come down to who can get the most use of an advanced scope like this. i.e. a project or some other thing that can really make use of an advanced 10bit 300MHz mixed signal scope.
But it's also about "the vibe".

When is the closing date/time/TZ?  I was thinking about adding some photos into my video.  Thanks

"Entries close 15th July 2017."

I'm going to assume that is *no earlier* than 15th July 23:59:59 Sydney time.

2 minutes is really sort to talk about alle the usecases, especially like my video.

I think what's funniest so far is the number of people who's number of posts in the forum is 1.

Or wait, the number of people who have a commercial lab, but don't care to have a scope higher than 10Mhz.

Or wait, the number of people who can't even use a 10MHz scope yet but wants this one really badly.

Oh wait! There's also some people who have broken scopes, that is, who can't take care of a 10Mhz scope, but want this one real bad!!

And some people who think that showing that they have no scope will give them a better chance. That's the funniest! Someone who doesn't have a scope clearly isn't serious about electronics, so why would Dave give them a professional scope anyway.

I think Dave is either crying in embarrassment, or cracking himself up in laugher at these videos.

Just because someone doesn't have a scope at home, doesn't mean they don't know how to use it. I had a 1gHz Agilent almost permanently on my office desk in my previous job. A reasonable scope is a fair wack of money in many countries. I  always had access to scopes through my previous job which I was allowed to borrow when not in use. Unfortunately working for a start-up now, I no longer have that luxury.

Loads of good entries!

Perhaps R&S (I know you are listening  :)) could be encouraged to dump some extra in the dumpster or upgrade Dave with something new so he can dump the R&S1202 which is also a nice scope, albeit it 2CH.

Hey Dave,

Your attempt to attract newbies over to the forum worked swimmingly in my case. One question, I saw this a bit later and will only finish the video today after work which is July 14th in Dallas, TX but is the cutoff your Australian time because then it will be the 15th?

That's why I said/edited *no earlier* in my previous comment.  I suspect Dave wants the best entries possible and isn't aiming to be too pedantic so I imagine that if you are currently on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baker_Island then 23:59:59 local time on July 14th would be acceptable.
