Were these promoted on YouTube?  If not you are comparing Wallabies to Panadas.
Good point ....

There were a LOT of entries.  Far more than anticipated, I believe.  I can't imagine Dave doing a half-assed job of the judging - so it will take some time.

Remember, he will still have other work that must be done - some of which will not be able to be put off.

The announcement will come.

Based on the votes it isn't looking good for me... lowest vote count currently is for people that try to educate by video blogging... damnit.

Its over  :phew: finally I can sleep again  :=\  :-+

Congratulations Matt  :-+ I think you can really use this scope to its fullest ;-)   :box:

Would be nice to see the short list.. just to see who made the list
Yes this would be nice ;-)

I think it was close for me too at least I got stalked alot in the last hours:

Youtube_Views" border="0

Most views I got from Australia sofar ;-)  :-+

I'm also a a little bit (very) disappointed ... Dave you played against your own roles  :--

Will you take the text in the post also into account?
2 minutes is really sort to talk about alle the usecases, especially like my video.

That's part of the challenge.

Got it!

I updated my entry video  8)
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/contests/giveaway-rohde-schwarz-rtb2004-oscilloscope/msg1251074/#msg1251074

I spent 10 hours to make my video ... and then again 2 hours to add more information and speed up parts (what actually made my video harder to watch :palm:)
And now you told that his video was actually not the best and he only won because of his homepage ....
I actually also planning to start a blog ... but my study has 100% priority right now  :(
And as you see in my other videos I also do a lot with FPGAs and mixed signals ... just don't have the time and money to do that more and I'm actually not an electrical engineer |O |O |O |O
And soon also not much more time done to my soon bigger family  8)

I know it was very hard to decide and I respect that. You cannot make it right for everyone :palm:

I will also shutdown the page monitoring soon: (i think eevblog is running good again)
http://rsgiveaway.knoebel.at/

Tanks again. And I'm looking forward to watch more videos soon  :-+

Would be nice to see the short list.. just to see who made the list (or rather to see if I made the list  :-//)

That would be a bad move, it would only lead to endless complaining at best.
I once made the mistake to try and explain to someone who entered the Hack-A-Day contest that I judged why perhaps they maybe didn't win (because they won the "popular vote" based on viewer responses, so they were gobsmacked at not winning), honesty did not go down well.
Will never make that mistake again.

"Someone who doesn't have a scope clearly isn't serious about electronics,"

When I was at Uni I worked in TV repair shops between courses to get some money. For beer, of course. You need beer at Uni.

Most of the places didn't have a scope, and of those that did have one, it was so crappy as to be next to useless. The jobs still got done though. In some cases when you don't have the right tool for the job you have to be creative in the way you use other tools. The guys in those places taught me a few faultfinding tricks that you never get taught in college. Some are still just as applicable today.

OK, so I've just proved that I don't need the RTB2004. Oops.

I am kind of glad that I didn't win because I could not have used the scope to its full capabilities. Also, two days ago, I scored a Tektronix 2230 for $100 on eBay that does everything I needed. Thanks for the opportunity anyways.  ;D

Looks like a worthy winner Dave.

I also was really impressed by the guy that you said "Had a future in youtube", I wish I had that level of creativity.

I suppose us old guys will have to go back to the luck system in order to try and win.

hey dave,

Super stoaked about the shoutout in your video :)
While it definetly stings to get that close and not win the scope, the positive feedback from you two davids and the rest of the community has been super encouraging.

Also, I think matt can make better use of the incredible analog capabilities, which would I not need for my current project.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway. You gonna do it like this again in the future? On one hand it is a huge time investement, on the other hand it is great to see it go to someone who can actually make good use of it :) Maybe next time, now that you established that you judge similarly, both can judge half the videos and the come together in the end and discuss your two top 10ish picks? Enlist the help of some other community members as guest judges and do the same?

Thanks for inspiring me to get into electronics:)

Philipp

Absolutely, the majority of faultfinding is done with the most basic of tools and experience, in fact having more test gear can make it way more difficult to solve problems, especially if you don't have a good understanding of the basic principles.

That is very true.

Many years ago, I had a quirk in a circuit, so I pulled out the CRO - but it didn't help much.  It was only afterwards when I was just thinking about the problem that an idea came to mind.

I have found that a good understanding not only can help you solve existing problems, but can also make you aware of potential problems that may arise in the future.

Doing more with less is a real thing.
