Two slightly used Keysight DSOX1204G 100MHz 4CH scope with function generator are up for grabs!

To enter you must post a video (hosted on Youtube, Vimeo, whatever) a maximum of two minutes long showing/explaining why you want and need this scope.

This contest is ONLY open to people who post a video! You don't have to be in the video yourself, but that may help, who knows.

Do NOT post or comment in this thread unless you are entering and posting a video!

Dave will pick two winners, and Dave's decision is final.

You may be responsible for import taxes and charges based on you country and any stupid local import laws you might have. If you don't like this, don't enter.

Hi Dave,
I’ve been having terrible luck, I keep buying broken things that need to be fixed

A 4 channel 200MHz scope would help me to fix more broken test gear (really a 4ch 1GHz scope would be ideal, but 200MHz is still a lot better than what I currently have), sometimes 2 channels (or 100MHz) just isn’t enough.

Hello, This is a video explaining why it would be very very useful to have a high quality scope with an inbuilt signal generator.

The analog front end for the piezo hydrophone element would benefit greatly from a high quality scope front end. Currently we only have a cheap and cheerful chinese USB scope.
If we are able to probe the extremely low level signals with a professional scope front end we will be able to maximise our sensitivity, which directly extends the acoustic listening range, increasing the chance of detecting the extremely rare Hector or Maui dolphin.
In addition, it would be very useful to be able to generate a synthetic dolphin click using the signal generator, and follow this out to a piezo, into out piezo mic, through our analog front end and into the TI ADC.
We are using the LT1792 and LT1464 as our sensitive front end amp. Our current chinese usb scope can not beused on this, so a high quality scope with proper probes would be immensely useful.

Hi Dave. I'm Harshad an engineering student from India. I am also an electronics enthusiast and in need of an actual DSO. I have had DSO138, a $20 cheap oscilloscope for over an year now but now even that has started to give me troubles, buttons have become loose, the dc jack gave up etc. I will be truly very thankful if I get the scope.
I have had good experience using the DSO138 and I ensure you I will make utmost use to learn and to teach electronics through Instructables and YouTube.

Edit: Alright, found some time today to re-edit the video so that it properly fits under 2 minutes. The full video is still up for an explanation of the instrument mod projects.

Sorry, I just noticed the "2-minute rule"... after spending 50 minutes encoding the 4K video... Not a big deal though, only watch the first 2:00 minutes! It's more than enough to get the idea... (Spoiler: the only thing I'm missing in my little home lab is a scope and a func gen!).

Hey Dave,

this is our entry for the Giveaway.

We are a group of 15 students from a German high-school aiming to launch our own CubeSat, a small satellite we named "MeginaSat", into Low Earth Orbit.
MeginaSat will transmit data via an optical downlink to our groundstation at datarates of up to 50 MBit/s. As demonstrated in our entry video, our current gear will hardly be up to this task.

For this reason, the Keysight DSOX1204G would really be a game-changer for our project.

I decided to skip my sob story(homelessness, addictions, comas, and other stuff like that) and go for some humor.
I had to remove a lot of the video and trim down a lot of clips to make it 2 minutes, but I don't think it affected what I was going for too much at all.

As for my current projects, I am currently designing USB/Bluetooth HID devices, as well as game controllers for older and modern consoles.
Some of my next projects include audio mixers, midi devices, and photography equipment. All of them which I plan to take to market, or at the very least open source.
I literally have a huge list, that I'm picking away at one by one, every day. That scope will get some good use out of it, but until I finish my first commercial project, a good scope is not in my budget.

Thanks Dave for your videos I have learnt a lot! This project started due to your videos about PCB manufacturing.

Note about the featured project: It's DIY made by a guy with not a lot of knowledge.
Lots of mistakes has been done.

A voltage drop on the 4V supply causes the chip to enter off state. On my cheap DSO I cannot set a precise trigger and I can't see the transient.

This is our entry Video of my multimedia electronic students.
We have currently eleven apprentice, in our electronic laboratory, age ranges from 16 to 20.

After the four year apprenticeship they will finally graduate as professional Multimedia Electronic Technician.
Two days they are studying theory at a TAFE, three days they are in our workshop.

We had much fun in filming this movie and a lot of laughter between it!

The minimum post requirement was only for the forum post random pick. There was no such requirement for this part of the giveaway, no minimum value for the Patreon draw and no requirements at all for the YouTube draw (although a means to contact became a necessary factor).

The fact that the prizewinners were students is no surprise. If you have noticed anything about Dave, you should have picked up on his interest in nurturing the next generation of EE's.

It should also be noted that Dave would have liked to have given away many more prizes - so the two winners were just the fortunate ones.

This video contest had nothing to do with being a forum member, it was open to anyone, the forum was just a convenient place to consolidate all the entries.

That may be the case, but I think it would have been better for it to go to someone that actually uses the forum and does participate, obviously too late now, but if you are ever crazy enough to do this again, I suggest having the same condition for the videos too, would have saved you a lot of viewing time for a start, if you ignored all videos from people with less than say, 10 posts, that would have cut your workload considerably.

I saw a lot of videos from people that I really didn't think were worthy of the scopes, as well as some where I think the scopes were actually too advanced for where they are currently in their experience, would be like me wanting to get a 20GHz scope... it wouldn't be used.

This was not about promoting the forum, that's what the other contest was for were it was limited to active members.

That's why it's judged.
Limiting the contest to regulars does not really fix that issue. If it did I wouldn't bother with the video at all, which is what I did for the other forum contest thread.

To the WHINGERS expressing their displeasure, all I can say is suck it up, shut up and grow up.

Trying to impose your sense of justice on a competition that was clearly spelled out at the beginning sounds like sour grapes.

As I said before, it is no secret that Dave has an interest in nurturing the next generation of EE's. The video competition allowed just that. Membership of the EEVblog wasn't necessary - but it's a good chance they were watching to find out about the competition.

The EE world is bigger than the EEVblog - and it would seem rather obvious that Dave is well aware of this and is happy to engage with anyone who has the interest - and in the case of this competition, the energy to put together a video - rather than hold a narrow, parochial attitude.

Also, by making three of the scopes available to people who were not members of the EEVblog, he has attracted more interest - which could attract more membership with broader reach and greater engagement.

I don't think that would have been appropriate. While Dave might have liked to see a scope go to a student, as I see it, he could have chosen a video that did NOT fit that profile - but gave a compelling reason for selection. Based on the other drawing having a minimum post count, forgive me if I mistook that as applicable across the board. If you go back and look at the live stream, I'm not the only one that thought this. As far as my "sense of justice" goes, I believe the term you're looking for is humanity. Perhaps you could read up on the Sri caste systems, the Sri civil war, and Sri genocide that has occurred in a country known to sponsor terrorism. All independently verifiable at a scholarly level. Say what you want, but that's immutable fact.

Dave, I don't mean to offend or irritate anyone. I believe the sincerest form of flattery is feeling you can share an honest opinion. We're all here for a common interest in electronics. I think the giveaway was a great idea, but some of the rules seemed to get a bit muddled together. I'm not the only person that made that mistake, as illustrated by the comments in the live stream. I apologize for that. I was excited to see a woman winner as the sciences (especially engineering and electronics) are largely male dominant, which I believe stifles innovation.

Syntactically flawed perhaps - but I think you get my meaning. Besides, the winning video could have been produced by a student and have it posted by a tutor, parent, etc. So, in that case, they didn't have to be a member.

But my point was, simply, that Dave performed the selection process well within his stated parameters - not those that some people thought.

I don't understand why people are complaining. If someone is deserving enough, shouldn't matter how much they post on the forums. Lots of us might watch EEV videos and lurk the forums sometimes, but not necessarily have enough time to be posting constantly. Doesn't mean we aren't busy working on stuff and sharing/contributing by other means like github, etc.
