Rohde & Schwarz Scope Giveaway
« on: June 10, 2016, 02:22:10 pm »
Rohde & Schwarz is giving away some GoPros and one of their new handheld scopes.  Details here:

https://www.2-minutes.com/competition/

The goal is to find the most unique use model.  As an example, they sent one in to space:

20second Overview:

Longer "documentary" style - it's actually pretty interesting if you've got 10 minutes to burn:

I think that opening beer bottle with this scope shall fulfill only few seconds ... not 2 minutes. :-//

That was cool.

When the scope reached approx. 30km altitude, the screen was no longer visible. I assume that this is due to the extremely cold temperature causing the battery output to be too low to keep the scope on. It didn't appear to be depleted since it was fine after being turned back on after landing.

So, apart from the obvious marketing aspects, what was the purpose of the scope during this flight? A protocol decoder acting as a single-line text display?

From T's & C's:
5. The Competition is open to o companies and universities exclusively. Natural persons are therefore not allowed to participate. The natural person filling in the participation form in the name of the respective participating company or university acknowledges that they represent the respective company or university by registering the company or university in the participation form and that they are authorized to represent the respective company or university in the Competition. Each participant may be registered several times by different representatives. Only the participating company or university is able to win the prizes.

Oh, well.

The only Rohde & Schwarz branded item I have is the remains of a shipping crate.
I can understand why they made it universities and companies only, would be impractical otherwise.
Still good on them for actually running an international contest.

Unfortunately, I’m not eligible. Only Businesses and Universities welcome at the cheap-ass R&S contest...

Btw, what happened to Nilu? Given the value of the winning prize and the attention the contest got here on the forums it would be nice if Keysight would do a short follow up on it :)
