Edits & FAQs:
1. "Why isn't country XYZ included?" - I really wish we could include every country on the planet, but in order to comply with local laws & regulations we simply cannot. We work with our legal team to make sure we include as many countries as possible while remaining compliant.
2. Unlike cyber week, you do NOT have to be affiliated with a company.
-
Oh, no, again? Why can't Keysight hold these events less frequently.
I'm just joking, I'm totally enjoying it :-DD

So...do the entrants have to be affiliated with a company or not ?
-
Daniel, OK, so question:
Why not Croatia...? It is EU country, it is in NATO (so no funny military export problems i guess..)

Sinisa.

Entrants do NOT have to be affiliated with a company!
We do our best to include as many countries as possible, but we do have to comply with local laws and regulations.

Glad to see scope month is back and incorporating feedback/learnings from last year. Hope it all goes well and that there may be additional types of test gear in the future (for this or other promo events).

I thank you for your answer... But I still think there is no real reason in our country legislature, except corporate lawyers being lazy to go into details of every little country that doesn't seem to have great market potential, and just playing it safe.. It would be nice though to be able to participate...
As I said, i do thank you for your answer...
Have a good one, Daniel!!

To what address should I post my "processing fee" Daniel?
This is to make sure my entry has the best possible chance of being picked... wink wink nudge nudge....

For the bigger scopes this year it will be a judged event and not community voted like last time.
Guess who's on the judging panel ;D
I will accept an Alan Bean original painting as a bribe

Why Canadian and South African winners have to do a math test in order to claim the prize? Sounds ridiculous.
Not necessarily.
In NSW, as I understand you cannot legally conduct a raffle (random draw) without government approval (technically). However, you can offer a competition of skill and when there are multiple winning entries, you are permitted to draw one of them at random to win the prize.
It was very common to have a
G _ E _ S _ N G C _ M P _ _ I T _ _ N
where you had to fill in the blanks.
-
Yes, it's the skill requirement. Welcome to the department of bureaucratic red tape where the seemingly ridiculous becomes law.
-
My luck usually sucks, but cool thing :)

Congrats, great choice, but $433K !!! I'd want part of the moon included, for that amount !!! ... or the lander .. geebus

Because their laws are ridiculous.

You do get a part of the moon included, actual moon dust from Alan Beans moon boots.

Oh, well that changes everything. If I could buy one of those, then I'd forgo the bribe and put the painting on my wall. 8)

I've seen the "math test" that they have to complete for Canada and South Africa, it's trivial. I don't know the specifics behind the legislation, but no one is failing that test.
-
Well, Germany is part of it again, thank you!
-
It's probably going to be annoying to see people immediately selling their prize on eBay (or offering it on here) again. If I was doing this sort of giveaway I'd list the prizes as "on loan indefinitely" and keep them officially as remaining the manufacturer's property. That way they couldn't be sold for a quick profit at the expense of a potential winner who might actually use it. It might even get around the tax issues.
-

True, but not unique to this giveaway. However, selling the won item is a lot better than, for example, the guy who won a Lamborghini and crashed it just six hours later (http://www.ctvnews.ca/contest-winner-crashes-lamborghini-6-hours-after-win-1.743819) (no one was injured). :palm:
-
as in the other thread:
[crybaby rant]
my sister had a working permit in canada last year, but that was from APRIL till NOVEMBER :scared: :scared: :scared:
hope you'll be able to add italy to the contest too in the future. :horse:
I know i can just wait for the usual german guy to win an sell immediately on ebay, as always, but still.. they resell them for brand new price.
not fair.
not fair.
notair.
[/crybaby rant]
-
Blame the countries and their ridiculous laws, not Keysight. I believe that is also the case with university (and public) employees, winning a contest and receiving a prize is considered as bribing or sth stupid :)
At least here is one lucky 2016 winner who still has the scope. Cannot say it hasn't crossed my mind to put it on eBay. After all, I could surely spend few thousands on something that has way more use than the scope - even though I am active hobbyist and do use it. But those are big money for most of us, I think many decide to sell them even if they had some use for it. After all, I decided to keep it as I dont urgently need money and at least I have a scope I could never buy. Should be enough scope for a hobbyist for very long time.
Maybe it could be even better to give away cheaper scopes that do not have so high reselling value but would still be a jackpot for most? And do we even know what is this model they are going to give away this time?
-
@blueskull I know you did buy one of the last year prizes.
Beating the :horse: again, but seeing that many people that win these contests just to resell the prize for near the retail price is depressing for people who can't afford these instruments, would put them to use but can't enter the competition.
It's not fair but the world is not fair. So what can i do about it?
1) Make my voice heard in these topics (with the knowledge that it would be just as effective as if i made a change dot org campaign :D :D )
2) Make more money (on it!)
3) Get a new job in another country (but i love my job)
(not putting the blame on keysight. i don't know the exact legislation of my country about constests but i think i got why they can't / don't want to make it here)
Anyway, good luck to the contenders!
-
I also bought one scope from a last years scope month winner (Germany) for a hugely reduced price (not on ebay) and I am very happy with it. So, it is not always a bad thing if a winner will sell his prize.
-
It would have pained me to win one of the 6000 series scopes on offer last year. It's just way too much scope for my needs .... but if I were to score a 100MHz one, it will go with me to my grave.
/dreaming
-
The vast majority of the giveaway scopes seems to be a secret new 100 MHz model, perhaps a upgraded 2000 series with touch screen. IMHO this would be a good thing because it greatly reduces the appeal to sell it right away and the tax is not a problem, even for private individuals :-+

You should get to a confirmation page and a non-mandatory "share on Facebook" window. (Don't hate me for the Facebook share thing).
-
I managed to get an entry in even though my country is not listed (Belgium). It got it in under "Other(my country is not listed)". Is that entry then forwarded to the nearest virtual garbage bin? Or will this actually do something?
I can't understand why there would be a legal issue with Belgium. My guess? The legal department is very slowly working down a list of possible countries and they are ordered in a "large market first" fashion.

I'm not 100% sure what that is about, but if your country is not in the T&Cs you won't be winning a scope in the sweepstakes.
I can't understand why there would be a legal issue with Belgium. My guess? The legal department is very slowly working down a list of possible countries and they are ordered in a "large market first" fashion.
A little bit of this is inevitable, but Belgium is big enough to be considered. I actually asked about Belgium specifically during Cyber Week, but it wasn't legally doable. :(

Boilerplate T&C's.
Covers the situation where you might have to prepare something for submission - such as a video - so that Keysight can use it freely.

This basically means we own your entry. You can't put IP in instead of your first name and then sue us for it. We don't on all of your IP & copyrights, just anything you submit to us as an entry into this sweepstakes.

Daniel,
At the risk of looking a gifthorse in the mouth....
One perennial problem of these kinds of competition is that some of the scopes end up being resold pretty quickly; OK, so that gets them out, eventually, to people who can actually make use of them, but its frustrating to the rest of us and, quite frankly, doesn't do a great job of market intelligence collection either, which is presumably one of the reasons you do this....it also means you've lost a potential commercial sale when a 'real' customer finds a bargain offer on eBay or whatever.
So, how about a selection option for what 'class' of scope you'd like to be in the draw for?
That reduces the chance of someone winning a scope that's either hugely above or below their use level, which would hopefully reduce the chance of them wanting to resell it. You're going to have more low end scopes than high end ones, so provided punters are only allowed to enter for one 'class' or the other then they would self select according to their need.
Personally, I'd be happy with a smaller chance of winning a MSOX4104A than a bigger chance of getting something that wouldn't be a step up for me and would deprive someone else of the chance of getting a step on the ladder.

If someone enters a contest with the intent to sell their winnings, hardly anything is going to stop them from doing so.
Everyone who submits an entry knows what they could potentially win. So, those who claim they have to sell their winnings because it's too much for them or they can't afford the tax is either lying or not paying attention.
Contests such as these are fundamentally about branding. It doesn't really matter how the devices get out there or where they end up as long as people see or hear about the brand. Barbecuing oscilloscopes, anyone? Thus, it's working as intended or Keysight would stop doing it.
-
So, those who claim they have to sell their winnings because it's too much for them or they can't afford the tax is either lying or not paying attention.
Rubbish.
In Australia, we don't have the tax problem, but we are aware of the impact of it to our US cousins. We are aware of the early days where someone would win a car on a TV show - and then have to sell it to pay the tax bill. They were still ahead, but to a lesser degree. Winning a scope is no different.
As for selling a scope because it is "too much" for someone, how is that from someone "lying or not paying attention"?
As I said earlier, if I had won a 6000 series scope, there's very little chance I would ever seriously explore it's capabilities. 100MHz would do me - and even going to 200MHz would be something I would have to think about. Selling a 6000 series scope and picking up a 100MHz scope plus some other gear makes far more sense than sitting on the beast that would be seriously underutilised.
As for the marketing exercise itself, Keysight are not going to be overly worried about one or two ... or even 10 scopes getting resold. The marketing effort is something that will engage thousands of people who will share it with thousands more. That's the purpose of this exercise, the scopes offered are are done so for the interest they will attract. The actual scopes themselves are almost inconsequential.
-
As for selling a scope because it is "too much" for someone, how is that from someone "lying or not paying attention"?
Although restating things doesn't always make things clearer, I shall attempt it.
Not paying attention: They entered not understanding what they would win and only figured it out later.
Lying: The key phrase from my comment is that these winners claim that they "have to sell their winnings". If they were paying attention, then they knew what they would be getting. They didn't "have to" sell it because it's "too much". They chose to sell it, for whatever reason, which may include because it was too much for them.
Your example is different because it's not someone who is claiming that they "have to" sell it. You entered knowing what you'd win and sell it in order to put the value to better use. That's prudent. Plus the one who purchases the prize from you can make better use of it.
-
They didn't "have to" sell it because it's "too much". They chose to sell it, for whatever reason, which may include because it was too much for them.
Ah - you were being very specific in your choice of words.
Fair enough then.

Actually, you'll be able to see it (or some of it) sooner on the EEVblog ;D

I could do with a big screen Keysight scope so I could then tell she who doesn't know the difference that it is a special TV for my viewing pleasure only, with my luck though they will probably nominate to have the draw on the 1st of April and we all know what that means. ::)
-
From the "Scope Month 2017 – Oscilloscope Sweepstakes Rules":
[...] Multiple entries are permitted, but only one entry per individual per day. [...]
I am curious: How that is done technically?
Only regarding the name/email-adress?
Is the IP-adress used to differentiate the entries? Or the MAC-adress?
Perhaps that is interesting for some ones to avoid the unintentional invalidating of their entries.
Somehow I see pros and cons for every of this procedures... :-//
And BTW:
I will totally accept the result of the next Scopemonth...
- if I win an oscilloscope!
-

Whew, good to know, I was actually a bit worried that it would be an actual skill testing question and almost didn't sign-up. I know most contests in Canada have a skill testing question such as (What is 2+2-1) :) archaic laws are fun!
This looks like a really cool contest, thank you for holding it!
-
Hmm, I forget which email I used and I think I've used two, all other info same, dunno if that disqualifies me. I forget a lot :(
Good luck everyone though!

Does displaying video on a scope screen work well on a DSO? I imagine that it, like the scope clock, wouldn't look as good as on a CRO. But perhaps it'd be good enough to corroborate the TV story?

We're intentionally vague about what/how we check. But, every winner will be vetted again post-draw to check for "unfair advantage."

Rules state 1 entry per individual [human] per day. Keep it to one from this point and you should be fine :). I try to be lax on this type of thing, but blatant, everyday multiple entries just isn't fair to everyone else and violates the T&Cs.
-
Just checking the definition of "Day" in regards to one entry per day....
From the T's & C's, I would expect it is from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 Pacific Standard Time (Continental USA, west coast).
Is that correct?
The extension to this is that a person could submit an entry at 23:59:30 one day and then submit another 1 minute later - and both would be valid.
Is this also correct?
(I know I can't win here - I'm just participating in the spirit of the event.)

Strange thing - I entered once a couple of days ago and tried again this morning to get the error "Sorry, you have entered more than the allowed number of times" ? Perhaps its a timezone issue, but it's 2-3 days ago since I last entered.

Daniel can you tell us more about "where is Daniel"? Will it be country based? Australia would be too easy. If so what a great idea to get to travel ha ha I am studying flights to Australia to get ready.

Sorry about that. The "entry period"/"day" resets at midnight mountain standard time.
-
Sorry still don't not get it.
you collect entries from 0am till 23:59:59 on a given day. When is the draw for that day? The Next calendar day?
-
The draw will happen once per weekday using all of the entries submitted during the course of the sweepstakes. Each individual may enter once per day - with the "day" portion of "once per day" officially being 00:00:59-23:59:59.
The drawing is not of a single day's entries, but all of the entries combined. So, the final drawing 31-March will include all entries submitted during the sweepstakes.
-
Sorry, Daniel, but your answer does not matches exactly Bud´s question.
I´ll try to make it more clear...
The draw at 31-march contains the entries made until 30-march 23:59:59, correct?
Let´s say the draw is at 11:00:00 am/MST...
Are entries from the 31-march until 11:00:00 am regarded?
What happens to entries, made after 11:00:00 am/MST?
Are entries at 31-march completly useless? (Otherwise there must be a draw after 31-march!)
Or do you make the draw at midnight?
You get it?

Don't hate me for the Facebook share thing.
Why not? >:D
Not everybody loves Fakebook...

Ok I entered my information twice now and when I enter the Capcha information I get returned to the blank entry page with no confirmation.
So, I still do not know if I am entered.

How should I proceed?... Is there any way to sort out if we have an entry?

Why have an other country listed, when only countries in term 3 are eligible?
3. Promotion Description/Eligibility. No purchase necessary. This promotion is limited to specific countries and is only open to entrants aged 18 years or older at the time of submission who are legal residents of, and physically located within Austria, Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec), Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States (excluding Florida, New York, and Rhode Island), and Venezuela. Government agencies and institutions (including public universities), and their employees, are not eligible to participate or receive prizes, nor are individuals who appear on the U.S. Government Department of Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals List. Employees of Keysight Technologies, Inc., its affiliates, subsidiaries, Channel Partners and agents, and immediate family members of each, are not eligible. This promotion is void where prohibited by law.
No Australia - BOOO

Usually you are allowed one entry in the time leading up to Scope Month, then a daily entry during that month.

That's a rather negative view.
In the past, Australia has simply been omitted - and I don't doubt it has been because of our legal obligations.
Now, Daniel has made an explicit statement that we are going to get our own contest. I would expect the prize offering may not be as generous as that for the (however limited) international competition - but we are going to have a chance at something!

Yeah come on darn it! :)

If you get a message that you entered already, your entry definitely went through. I'll double check the system's confirmation page, what browser/device are you using?

In the past, Australia has simply been omitted
...
Now, Daniel has made an explicit statement that we are going to get our own contest....
This is great news and is the catalyst that has dragged me out from lurking for the last 6 years...
I would expect the prize offering may not be as generous as that for the (however limited) international competition - but we are going to have a chance at something!
Chance yes, but as far as I am aware these 5 scopes are not exclusive to residents of Australia, therefore the chance is also there that none of these 5 scopes stay in Australia. Those that are eligible for Scope Month have just had their chances increased from >125 scopes to >130 scopes.
Don't get me wrong, I am stoked there is now a chance for us aussies even if we do have to compete with the rest of the world.
It's better than nuthin'! ;D
-
Hey Daniel.
I know Norway is not listed and there are legal reasons why not. But could you elaborate on exactly which laws prevent you from including Norway in the contest? Or is it simply that there are too many laws and regulations to go through, and you don't have the time or the money to do that?
All the best,
Magne
-
If your country isn’t on the dropdown list and you have to type it in “other”,
does that mean the country is not in the competition?
-
You should get to a confirmation page and a non-mandatory "share on Facebook" window. (Don't hate me for the Facebook share thing).
I was presented with what I initially thought was a blank page. I had to scroll up to see the confirmation message.
Someone needs to do a little work on the UI.
-
The Netherlands still not included just as last year before Trump.
-
MAC-adress?
MAC address is a layer 2 thing, i.e. usually no further than the network segment your PC sits on (as in, to your router). It wont make it across the Internet to be used for identity matching purposes.
-
The draw at 31-march contains the entries made until 30-march 23:59:59, correct?
It sounds like a compounding thing from his explanation.
So the draw on 31st march includes all entries from March 1 00:00:00 to March 31 23:59:59.
That means on the last day of the competition you can have up to 31 entries which may be selected from.
As is my understanding.
-
I have been interested in this event for several years. But i cant for the love of god understand why Norway inst included in the countries?

2. Promotion Period. This promotion begins on March 1, 2017 at 12:00 midnight PST and ends on March 31, 2017 at 9:00 AM PST (“Promotion Period”), before which all entries must be received.
It seems you have 32 possible entries:
One pre-promotion entry plus one entry every day in march.
Be aware: The last entry must be made until 31.03.2017, 09:00:00 AM PST. (See quotation above.)
Therefor the last draw is on 31. March.
BTW: PST? What happened to MST? E.g. there:
8. Winner Selection. [...] The final drawing will be on March 31, 2017 at 10:00AM Mountain Standard Time USA.
-
BTW: PST? What happened to MST? E.g. there:
The use of PST and MST is not a problem.
PST is used to define the start and end of the promotion. MST is used to define the "Day" during which each "daily" entry can be submitted.
If you are still confused, draw out a time line and mark out all the points. (Save yourself a lot of effort by only doing this for a day either side of the start and a day either side of the end.)
-

Correct
For the PST/MST thing, we had to run the event off of the time zone of our HQ in Santa Rosa, but since we're all in CO (scope folks, anyways) it's much easier for us to work off of MST.

Convert to UTC and let everyone work it out for themselves. ;D

The only sensible option for international events!

What a bummer. Hungary is still missing from the list of countries. Keysight shoud make their legal staff work for their money, and figure out the way to include other countries too. Tektronix had a giveway here some years ago. Just sayin'.
-
Keysight_DanielBogdanoff, I just noticed that university employees are not eligible for contest, by habit I written my university name in company field, though I am a student, no employee. I hope there is no automatic script that discards entries with universities and I am still ok? :D
-
what happens to a prize if the winner is later discovered ineligible?
-
Previously, if a winner was ineligible or declined their winnings, the prizes went back into the pool to be given away again.
-

Yeah, me too. Didn't want to write "private" or something like this in the field.
But since I'm not employed at my university... :-//

No auto script, you should be fine!
-
what happens to a prize if the winner is later discovered ineligible?
We will do a re-draw and notify the winner via e-mail. We won't be re-drawing on YouTube this time around, though.
-
Well, there should be a way to do that because some contests they can deliver giveaway all countries excluding the US sanctions. I know yours is a kind of lottery but you can convert it a kind of a project and ask for "What will you do with our scope?" and award the best ideas similar to Hackster. They don't need to do a project but just write a proposal. Element14 giveaway 1000$ with the same method. This what I can think as a person far from the law but your lawyers should think better and analyse how those organisations do.

This only works when you have 1 prize, not 125 scopes. Even if it was 1 scope, nobody will bother to read thousands(!) of crappy ideas from people around the world, its boring as hell and nobody gets anything useful from it, making "project contest" where people need to show skills is more doable, but also pain in the ass. I've seen many contest on internet and believe that in most cases dumb random lottery is the best way both for company and for people too. :)
Actually I think Keysight had something like this last year when there was some poll and videos or some stuff like this. Or maybe it wasn't Keysight.... anyway it turned out not so well, much more headache for no reason.

Hi Daniel,
why not listed Czech Republic? We are part of EU & NATO.
Why there is "Other Country (not listed)" and "Other Country" edit box in form, when there is no chance to win?
Thanks
Jaroslav
-
Hi Daniel,
why not listed Czech Republic? We are part of EU & NATO.
The problem has nothing to do with the EU or NATO - it is to do with local laws of the Country and/or it's States.
Why there is "Other Country (not listed)" and "Other Country" edit box in form, when there is no chance to win?
They will no doubt be using a generic form. It hasn't been customised for this specific promotion.
-

There will be a merit-based "contest" (as opposed to a sweepstakes), tune in 1-Mar for details!
-

Why there is "Other Country (not listed)" and "Other Country" edit box in form, when there is no chance to win?
I'm not sure of the specific regulations around the Czech Republic, and I unfortunately don't have a list of why each country was excluded, but it definitely has to do with remaining legally compliant.
With regards to the "other" country option, there were a couple reasons. One of main reasons is that without the "other" option we got a lot of calls about a form bug that didn't include the user's country. Adding "other" saved me a of time in the long run (even if it means I'm responding to the new set of questions) :).
-
Entrants do NOT have to be affiliated with a company!
So "private" in the company field is sufficient?
-
Yes, that's fine.

Hope his scopes are rigged like his "experiments". :-DD
-
The scopemonth webpage says that there will be "new winners drawn every weekday on YouTube", I can't find today's draw? or a page that lists the winners?
I see one comment on Monday's live giveaway that said "we'll be live each Monday, and have a daily video each AM Tuesday-Friday?", I wonder which is correct?
Tim
-
Yes i was wondering too where one could find today's price winners?
There is not a whole lot of feedback on the scopemonth.com website...?
-
Nothing new on their youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/KeysightOscilloscope/videos), too... :-// :-//
-
Video with today's winners just went live on the Keysight youtube channel
i.e. 10 minutes after midday, Mountain Standard time.
-
Is there a winner listing at keysight website or elsewhere?
I see Daniel gave a few scopes to ElectroBOOM too, more chances for me! :-+
Do you mean this ElectroBoom:

ElectroBOOM is a YouTube channel and website run by Mehdi Sadaghdar, he received a few scopes to give away on www.Patreon.com (http://www.Patreon.com) (monthly monetary support to creators, or per video):

The first week of the Australian contest didn't seem to run that smoothly. There appears to have been some time zone confusion, and the question form doesn't accept submissions if the same email address was used for the email reminder form? Either that or I managed to skip the confirmation screen for my first submission, and then disqualified myself by re-submitting from a different email address :-//
-
The first week of the Australian contest ....
When did that start? Where do I find it?
Ah! Found it! .... A special link on the Scopemonth page - just for us!
-
I entered my name and email for notifications - but they just seemed to disappear. There was no confirmation that they were accepted - nor an email notification.
Makes you wonder if you've actually registered.
Also:
"Contest Schedule: The question will be posted weekly during the listed windows. Come back and be one of the first two to submit the correct answer!"
Does anyone know where one can find these "listed windows"?
-
I posted my answer, probably one of the first, however only answered half the question on the first time i submitted it - speed reading isn't great when details are needed like two part questions!
Then i got thrown off by the form not submitting when i hit submit, and it took me a while to work out it needed a company name in the form to allow it to be submitted... sigh.
No doubt i missed out this time, always next week i guess.
-

Submit button under the text fields worked for me, kinda, all that happened is the frame went a dark gray and a new button appeared further up under the Scope Month logo, labeled 'submit answer'....
Clicking that one seems to do nothing :-//
-
Clicking that one seems to do nothing :-//
Ok, just tried again and this time I got a Captcha, then "Thank you for entering!"
Woot! I'm in... but...
I also just got an email....
"Here is your friendly reminder that the Australian Scope Month contest question will be posted today between 11:30am-12:00pm AEST"
Ah dang it, I guess I'm too late then....
Ah well. Next week.
-
I also just got an email....
"Here is your friendly reminder that the Australian Scope Month contest question will be posted today between 11:30am-12:00pm AEST"
What contest are you talking about?
I thought it's a daily drawing of each day's participants? Isn't it?
-
Strange, AEST is Australian Eastern Standard Time - ie Non daylight savings time (Queensland time). AEDST indicates daylight savings time.
So which time zone is the competition referring to?
-
Being on AEDST, I'll just take the time as advertised. If during that window the question isn't available, then I'll look for it an hour later.
Not having found any T&Cs relevant to the Australian competition, some things are a bit of mystery. I'll just take my shots whenever I can and hope for the best.

Australia has a separate contest, because it is not eligible for the main sweepstake. :-//
It really matters only for australians.
Honestly, from pure curiosity, I gladly would know their conditions and prize distribution.
-
Hmmm... Maybe I just missed it but I can't find a list of the daily winners on Keysights scope month website? :-//
-
Well, all the times should be correct for the Australia now. The word on the street is that even Australians haven't all figured out daylight savings time >:D. Anyways, I apologize for any trouble that it caused, I've worked with the team here to make sure it's more clear next for the next one.
For the overall sweepstakes, we are posting all winners in the form of a daily video on our YouTube channel >:D, but if you'd like feel free to start a thread here.
-
but if you'd like feel free to start a thread here.
You say this as if all names are as easy to spell as yours :)
A daily link to the drawing video would eliminate this problem.
Suggestion: Add the Year to the date on the video title:
Touchscreens and our first 4000 X-Series winners! (3-Mar 2017)
So here is the one from today March 3, 2017 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTAm6kYcya8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTAm6kYcya8)
-
Yes, my name is definitely an easy one :-DD
I'll add the year to the titles, thanks!
-
Really surprise that they giveaway so many scopes
Unfortunately my country does not include in the list but I wish good luck to all people that can enter this giveaway :-+

Any discount or promo opportunities for the poor people who have to buy one? ::)

One scope for eevblog user :-+
Got confirmation email today and need to sign a few papers and see what happens with customs tariffs
Good luck to others also, to make your chances higher I will limit myself to two entries. I will post info here regarding about infamous W-8BEN form also when I get more info what tax treaty articles you should actually cite there.
-
Congrats, FireFlower!
-
Congrats FireFlower! I though I heard a Finnish name :) (eli onnea vaan!). Let us know how things with the customs go!
-
Wow, congrats FireFlower!
-
I am also in the game, everything works fine with the website. Do you guys got an email confirmation for partecipating? I am worried my company Spam filter is blocking them out...
@Daniel: I would love to have a job like yours...
-
1. "Why isn't country XYZ included?" - I really wish we could include every country on the planet, but in order to comply with local laws & regulations we simply cannot. We work with our legal team to make sure we include as many countries as possible while remaining compliant.
Which laws exclude Norway here?
-
@Daniel: I would love to have a job like yours...
You do not. One has to have a thick skin.
-
One scope for eevblog user :-+
Amazing! :)
And congrats of course :-+
Makes you wonder how many people actually compete each day? If out of 20 scopes already given away, one has gone to a pool of about 200 eevblog users (rough estimation based on eevblogs own giveaway contest), then there must be only a couple of thousand participants in the Keysight contest. With 125 total scopes to win the odds are actually not very bad at all! Wish i lived in an eligible country though... :(
What confuses me is that i can still enter the contest each day with a not listed country (and enter my own country name). What actually happens with these entries? Are they included in the draw or are they disregarded immediately? If disregarded, why is this not mentioned when entering? Now i get a message saying ive successfully entered the contest. Seems a bit unfair, proving false hope only?
-
Filled the forms (hopefully correctly) and sent them back to Keysight where they came from (cause no instructions?).
Also contest rules state:
"Winners of this sweepstakes agree to provide a written quote for publication regarding the use of the prize within 6 months of receiving the prize."
What would happen if a winner didn't provide a written quote for publication? The walk trough the streets? *shame*
-

I will send you $100 CAD if I win, so consider yourself semi-entered.
I think that box is a design mistake, they will not use those entries (was mentioned in this thread or another).

Not even sure why these people even bother entering when they know they will get found out.

I believe Daniel added the Other-option to avoid answering the "Why is $COUNTRY$ not listed?!" and apparently traded that for "Why is $COUNTRY$ not eligible?". These entries are disregarded since they are unfortunately not valid per the rules of the contest.
Congrats FireFlower!
-
Seems like keysight confirmed with email that my W-8BEN form is correct, according to email all items scopes ship from USA & after the contest.
Also here is a instruction how to fill W-8BEN form when you're not citizen of USA, live there or have business there and you don't do business either in your own home country. And your country has made a tax treaty pact with USA and articles are in same order (use google: #your_country and usa tax treaty, check if article 21 is other income
and I am wrong with this then I can only say sorry for that :-//
And thanks for everybody who congratulated me, good luck for next draws.

No confirmation e-mail, for reasons. |O
The "other" option was originally a make-Daniel's-life-easier decision that essentially didn't get me any more time back. But, I definitely will be looking at the "other" field's distribution and seeing if there's anything we can do to include those countries (no promises!). But, the gentle lobbying that was done by the Australia folks last year was a big reason why we included them this year - it wasn't just a Dave thing.

The maths are even better for the Australian competition, with 10 scopes going out to a much smaller population than 1/10th of the larger contest.
-
No confirmation e-mail, for reasons. |O
Yeah, a form with an email field that sends messages to said address is ripe for abuse. The confirmation page is sufficient.
-
Ahem.
One SMALL problem with the Australian competition - specifically the email notifications.
Keysight has broadcast the email address of everybody who signed up for notifications to everybody who signed up for notifications.
Keysight has been short-sighted by not using BCC for the notifications. I already have a conversation going on in my inbox!
-
This has the potential to cause me some grief.
I used a particular email address because I already had remote notifications set up for it. I did this after lengthy consideration, since it is not an email address I can use at my leisure. With a single email a week, it was not a big problem - but with several a day, it has the potential to bury important business emails.
Not ... happy ... Jan.
-
Yes, just got that email reminder as well, along with everyone else email addresses.
Keysight tries hard but really? ... the whole thing is very amateurish. FFS
What is their privacy statement regarding this?
<Note: I will accept a guaranteed free scope in payment for losing an email address>
-
Ouch, was it Keysights mistake or did they hire it out to Price Waterhouse?
:P

Well that is a pretty massive FUBAR isn't it.
I guess you guys can calculate your odds of winning now...
-
We take privacy seriously. I've alerted the team and we will be working around the clock to fix it. FYI, this isn't the entire list (the # of names is too small).
I don't know the legalese around what I can/can't say, but allow me as Daniel (and not officially as Keysight) to apologize for any trouble this may cause you.
-
My count was 123 email addresses - which I did think seemed a bit small.
It is certainly a breach of privacy - and it's not as if the privacy considerations in bulk email sending are rocket science. The BCC solution has been around for ages.
By all means, pass it on - but someone needs a kick in the pants.

No messing around: The spread it as fast as possible.

One question to Daniel:
If I register twice on one day by mistake (I thought time zone is PST instead of MST) will the second registration just be ignored or will I be disqualified for this day?
-
I still don’t know if I am included in today’s draw or not and whether I might be disqualified for submitting multiple entries, after entering a valid answer and submitting all of my details then completing the captcha thing no confirmation of acceptance was ever indicated and I was simply returned to the previous page without a clue as to my entry status. The terms and conditions of entry do declare that only one entry is permissible but as I didn’t know if any of the entries were accepted I just continued to submit additional entries all with the same information.
The screen grabs below will confirm that I was on the correct page at the time but the lack of feedback from the site on this occasion was rather annoying to say the least, I was pretty sure that last weeks entry displayed a thank you for your entry message or similar but this week I got nothing to that effect so am still none the wiser, did anyone else have the same experience today with the Australian draw?.
-
Just another screen grab below that I saved two minutes out from the start to verify that I was ready and waiting for a chance. :-//
-
Keysight tries hard but really? ... the whole thing is very amateurish. FFS
I was just thinking to myself today that the whole contest/event is really quite casual for such a large company, which is something I absolutely love about it. It's all more tangible and I feel more engaged than if it was some sterile, highly polished, sealed-envelope contest. I feel like I have more of a chance this way for some reason, which makes it more fun to play along.
As for the goof, I get not being thrilled, but I think some deep breaths are in order. If you're using a highly sensitive or guarded email address for entering a contest that is so obviously a marketing event, you share a teeny little bit of the responsibility here. Now if you're using all of your email addresses to get more entries into the pool, I hope your precious email address is sold like a $3..... :palm:
Anyway, deep breaths, little Fonzies. :-+
-
Just to ensure that nothing was wrong my end I returned to the competition page just now and submitted another entry with just random details and this time it was accepted with a confirmation note whereas earlier in the day I never received the thank you message and was simply redirected to the previous entry page without guidance or direction, a wasted opportunity by the look of it. >:(
-
FYI, this isn't the entire list (the # of names is too small).
Seems that not only did I somehow dodge that bullet, but I didn't get an email at all... :-//
-

One question to Daniel:
If I register twice on one day by mistake (I thought time zone is PST instead of MST) will the second registration just be ignored or will I be disqualified for this day?
The web page seems to check if there's already an entry for the same day in mountain time zone (UTC-7). I've stumbled across an error message after entering in the morning (local time) before the 12am day reset (8pm in Germany) and trying to enter in the night for the next day after the 12am day reset, but both entries were at the same day in mountain time zone (different days here). This morning I was able to enter again. So the FAQ isn't quite correct about the day reset. You have to wait until the next day in mountain time zone, and not the 12am day reset.

But, the gentle lobbying that was done by the Australia folks last year was a big reason why we included them this year - it wasn't just a Dave thing.
Very good to know! :)
I will be entering loyally each day then, and hope that the Netherlands will be included in the next give aways.
Please dont overlook our small country Daniel! 8)

So you are saying you can try to register as often as you like, first registration within the "day limits" is counted, and following attempts are rejected without disqualification?
-
For the overall sweepstakes, you are allowed one entry per person per day. The form itself is based on e-mail address, so it won't let you enter more than once per day with an identical e-mail. If you try more than once per day, you'll get an error.
For the Australia contest, I believe the form looks for anything different in any of the fields. Because that contest is based on first-to-answer-correct instead of random-draw-of-all-entries there's nothing that will disqualify you for answering & submitting more than once.
-
Daniel, looks like the competition captcha I got is suggesting you're in Brisbane: ;D
-
That's hilarious. Nice catch.

Today's drawing below.
Five year warranty is great...but doesn't that mean you have to keep your mittens out of the scope for an extra two years ?

Like it has kept us out anyway? Well nice to see the little Saturday scopes will have longer warranty. I am just wondering do the scopes come up with that digital RS232 & CAN etc options aswell.

My understanding is that they don't come with decoding. But last year some people asked nicely after they got their scope...

FYI, this isn't the entire list (the # of names is too small).
Seems that not only did I somehow dodge that bullet, but I didn't get an email at all... :-//
Confirmed.
Even though I registered for the reminders and I received a reminder last week, I didn't get one this week.
So it seems I've missed my chance for this week, what a joke.
-
Yeah, i got a reminder last week, but not this week. Wrongly assumed the question would be up on the same day as it was last week... Sigh.
-

Same, was thinking I might be in for some Birthday luck on Friday... but no.
-
Question: I just realized that my form filler (Last Pass) fills the "country if other" field automatically. My country (Finland) is eligible for the competition, but do you filter out submissions that have filled something in the "country if other" -field or just submissions that have selected other from the country-dropdown?
-
We'll generally check with you what your country of residence is if your name is pulled, so you should be fine.

Have any of you forum members been picked yet?
I was picked 3 days ago and got an e-mail from Keysight the next day with some documents to fill out but I'm not really sure what to do with them. The instructions for the form from the IRS are full of incredible legal mumbo jumbo but I'm pretty sure I got it right and see which parts are important and actually apply to me. :)
I emailed them with questions but haven't heard anything back yet so I'm wondering if any of you people have gone through this process and if so, did you fill out everything but the places that needed signatures, printed it, signed it by hand, scanned it and e-mailed it back?
They don't give a mailing address in the e-mail so I'm assuming this is the only way to do it. :-//

See posts from FireFlower above. Might be worth sending him/her a PM.
Edit: Oh, and congrats! Please send some of your incredible luck my way, preferably on a Friday for a 4000X ;)

The Australian contest which you were entering a) isn't on Friday, and b) is only for 1000x scopes yes?

Basically you fill the forms, print them, hand sign & scan them / photograph, reduce size a bit if needed, and email them back where they came from.
How to fill the form, you might want to see: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/contests/scope-month-2017-megathread/msg1154122/#msg1154122 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/contests/scope-month-2017-megathread/msg1154122/#msg1154122)

4000X..
Your words not mine.

(Hint: You asked about the Australian contest.)
So why do you want some luck for a contest you cannot win? Seems pointless.
-
You're making assumptions. All this tediousness could have been avoided if you'd just asked the right question in the first place rather than trying to be clever.
It is legitimately possible to be eligible for, and entered in, both contests.
I'll leave it to you to figure it out. (Keysight tell you how to do it, in a rather ambiguous way, on their Scope Month page)

They're pretty clear on the requirements:
For the Australian competition:
This promotion is limited to legal residents within Australia
For the main competition:
This promotion is limited to specific countries and is only open to entrants aged 18 years or older at the time of submission who are legal residents of, and physically located within Austria, Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec), Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States (excluding Florida, New York, and Rhode Island), and Venezuela.
So you're somehow within two countries simultaneously? Or trying to game the system and get entires to which you're not entitled to, seems pretty low when they made such an effort to include Australians with their own special contest.
-
So you're somehow within two countries simultaneously?
Effectively, yes.
I'm not 'gaming the system'. There is nothing in the T&C's that states that one cannot enter their competition via a proxy.
If you have a friend or family member that is a 'legal resident and physically located in' an eligible country, that is willing to accept the Keysight T&C's and enter on your behalf, go for it :-+
-
Technically - no.
You aren't entering in two competitions. You are entering one and the friend or family member is entering the other. The fact that the friend/family member is willing to hand over the prize (if they win one) is quite a separate matter.
It does, however, explain your previous expression of interest in having some luck drift your way.
In that, I wish you all the luck for the main giveaway - but I'll hold on to as much as I can for the Australian competition.

2. Unlike cyber week, you do NOT have to be affiliated with a company.

Thanks to FireFlower for the forms tips.
I won a scope last Friday. I just filled the forms and emailed them back.

You're welcome,
I can start to see the pattern winning scopes on the Thursdays and where the first name is picked up, game is hard and rigged :box:
Edit: Watched the videos daily but failed to understand there was a Finnish name because pronunciation was very off. Mainly because Daniel didn't put any emphasis on the first syllable of the last name.
Sounded like Paslasihlah instead Pa-si [small pause] Las-si-lah (if you know Japanese, then pronounce it similarly putting emphasis only on the first syllable of each word).
Mine own name was pretty good actually, "Marqqu Hyttinen", probably because pronouncing Markku naturally forces you to pause between the words.
-
I can start to see the pattern winning scopes [...] game is hard and rigged
I knew it! I knew it the whole time! The sweepstake is rigged!
There is only one more to say:
I will believe in the result of this sweepstake... - If I win! >:D
(Citation, or similar, from the 45th President of the good hombres)

Has anyone here submitted a video for the "Test to impress" contest this year? I have done so on Monday, and Youtube says there was not a single view in the USA or Australia.
I'd understand if the videos get submitted to the jury later, all at once, but it looks strange to me that really nobody takes a look. Any views on your contributions?
Maybe I am just a bit paranoid because last year they published my video about a week later than the others. Reason was that there was some kind of difficulty with the encoding of my video, and I was not contacted even though I sent in the video way before the deadline ended...
-
"8. Winner Selection.
For all winners a panel of judges selected by Keysight will select the winner. The decisions of the panel of judges will be final and binding. Judging will take place on or about April 1, 2017."
From the Test to Impress -terms. So you will probably see a hit between April 1st and April 15th (winner announcement).
Good luck!
-
Thanks, Ollihd!
I think I remember Daniel saying (on March 13) there were a couple of submissions already, and he will share some clips of them during the rest of Scope month. For me, this implies that someone will take a look at the videos before April 1st.
So I still wonder - should we see some views from the US already, and should we suspect that the submission went wrong if there are no views? Any other contester here?
-
I just watched the March 13th video on youtube. (Scope Month Live (13-March)
@9.24 he mentions Australia competition.
How did I miss this? Or was he referrign to the eevblog dumpster ones?

But seriously, who holds competitions on a Tuesday? It is literally the busiest day of the week. That's 3 i've missed now! (i'll take the blame for the first...)
I don't think I can enter any of them, same reason too busy on Tuesday.
Lunchtime (ish) sounds like a great idea, until you take into account Australia's three basic timezones.
-
I haven't had time yet to take a look at all of the Test to Impress submissions, but be assured that we will watch and consider all eligible entries
-

I am working on my video entry now!
(kidding)
As we approach the 1st anniversary of the maiden Test to Impress voyage - I am finally dealing with a project that will max out the MSOX6000A 6Ghz scope in bandwidth and use many of the fancy analysis tools - real time eye, jitter, and all available digital channels to decode (2) i2c and (2) CAN busses for a new commercial product. I have also been able to do some slick SMPS designs including my first Polyphase boost and buck converters. The power app (with a number of specialty probes) got me into some advanced areas.
For those that remember the video entry, the goal was to move up professionally and that is exactly what is happening. The project I am working on would have been totally out of reach without the ability to test, debug, and analyze it. Just purchased the first 6Ghz probe - 3 to go......
Literally a life changing event. Go make a video.

Same and same. Was stuck in a very interesting (:=\) meeting.
Damn Australian 'game-of-chance Vs test-of-skill' rules. A chance draw would be so much fairer for everyone.
-
Is there a text list somewhere of the names of all the current winners for scope month 2017? Or is the only way to know by watching the Youtube videos for each day?
-
the videos are only getting a few thousand views... seems too low.
-
I'll say that the views on the videos don't reflect the quantity of entries. Also, we will have a final list of winners posted once we get all the papers, etc., finalized.
-
Must be present to win :box:

And because it's the last date, the final competition is on a thursday... typical :-DD

I've seen the "math test" that they have to complete for Canada and South Africa, it's trivial. I don't know the specifics behind the legislation, but no one is failing that test.
I mean, they might fail, but if that's the case they are certainly not the type of people in need of a new oscilloscope.
-

That's as expected by me ;)
It's time to go buy myself a scope. Statistics is a "bad woman" ;)
-
After entering 30 times I just now noticed that after the captcha it says "This field is required" for the phone number. :palm:
No need to rub it in, I'm an idiot and I will kick myself, thank you.
-
That decreased your chances of winning, but just slightly, if that will make you feel better ;)
-
Without a phone number you'd still be eligible, so there's still a chance!

I don't think the form posts without a phone number... The stupid thing is that it only shows the message after the captcha, so you think it was ok :(

Don't worry! I've entered each day but had no luck. Same as last year.
-
Dont worry! I've entered each day but had no luck. Same as last year.
I know, odds are not that great, but I think it is just stupid to let you do the captcha and then give a (hidden, because you have to scroll down) error message.
It should of course show you this right after clicking the submit button, and preferably in red.

I took some time exploring this because we were a bit confused at the comment & link, India was not included last year, either.
-
Daniel,
I enter everyday and still I have not won a scope - and this is after putting your picture on my existing scope - what gives? >:D
-
Well, I didn't win but anyway, thank you Keysight and especially Daniel! It was a again a fun thing to follow and participate in and maybe I'm lucky next year. :)
-
Yep, can't win 'em all. I shall be looking forward to playing again next year!
-
After entering every day last year and most days this year I almost didn't bother today, but what do you know - I think I won the last one. Just got an email saying I won a DSOX1102G. Awesome - thanks Keysight. :-)
-
Wow, congrats Fred! Just goes to show that it ain't over 'til it's over.
-
Daniel,
is there an official list of the winners 2017?
Or do I have to watch all daily youtube videos?
Will the winners be informed by e-mail?

I'd better get on with filling out those forms and moaning about the tax. ;-)

Wow, nice! I was just going to ask if anyone here won. I entered every day and didn't win but that's expected, I never win anything anywhere. Not that I really need another scope.
-
Who said anything about needing another scope. Is there such a thing as too many scopes? :-DD

Why isn't May Tektronix oscilloscope month ?
-
The thread was started by Keysight, but I guess since the subject line doesn't specify the manufacturer, all scope months are fair game. ;D
-
Thank you Daniel!
-
FYI, there will be a text list of all winners once all winners have been finalized, and all winners will receive an e-mail with info if they haven't already. In the next couple weeks there will be an offline re-draw for any winners that were ineligible or choose not to accept, and those winners will be contacted via e-mail but not announced on YouTube.
Thanks for a great month, I'll be back online on Monday!
-
Thank you, Daniel and the Keysight team!
-
Thank you.
guess I'll have to keep my Tek 465b polished up for another year :-/O
-
I didn't win one, but i did not expect it. Guess there is quite alot people who enter there.
But i gotta thank Keysight and Daniel for the Chance :-+
-
I still want to buy one of the 1000x scopes for my basic needs and portable troubleshooting in the field. Lots of bang for the buck and I can use it for the more risky jobs.
-
Scopemonth is over and now anyone who knew about it will consider buying him/herself a scope. It was a good idea to bring 1000 series into market, but it would be a great idea to hit Rigol market share harder. Not that I'm market competition fan.. Well, maybe I am ;) but budget level is challenging and probably Keysight did a great job in pushing budget scopes sales mostly for their competitors.

-
It is getting closer, but I wouldn't be holding my breath just yet.....
The scopes should ship directly from the factory to the winners within 6 weeks from 31-Mar. It's much, much easier to deal with fulfillment all at once. But, if you have something going on and just can't wait to get your scope, it's potentially possible to get some out the door earlier. To make that happen, talk to the individual that contacts you with the winner info & forms.

The re-draw hasn't happened yet, and won't happen until we get paperwork from the original winners. I'll try to remember to post here once that happens.
... and, once shipped, they still have to find their way to the recipients. It could still be mid-May before they turn up.
Perhaps the scopes might not have arrived yet - but I think that list of winners can't be too far off.

Redraws haven't been drawn yet, we're trying to make that internal tracking stuff as easy as possible. Scopes are shipping out today! We're checking with the Malaysia team about how long shipping will take, and if you won and got us your paperwork back you should get an e-mail from us in the next 48 hours with details.
For the re-draw, we want to make sure we know how many people are rejecting the prize so we can do the redraw stuff in one batch.

Thanks for the update, Daniel. Still have my fingers crossed. ;D

Hmm.. So everyone who sent in the paperwork should have gotten an e-mail by now?
I sent my papers on March 11 so hopefully nothing went wrong with the attachments.
Is there any way I can find out if my papers were received and accepted?
On March 11 I DID get the automated e-mail saying "Thanks for the e-mail! This account is monitored, and you should receive a response (as appropriate) within a few business days or less." after sending off the papers. I never got back anything other than that mistaken e-mail everyone got and the message saying to ignore the previous message.

I've also not got a recent email, so it's probably nothing to worry about.

Still no email and over 48 hours passed :scared:

Maybe 48 hours for redraw winners? :-//

Hopefully I'll get the e-maill from them sometime today.

Take a deep breath everyone - giving away free stuff is not Keysight's business and it is very time-consuming to coordinate. They all have to do their normal work in addition to this promotional work. I am uniquely qualified to say that Keysight makes good on promises.
The winners are getting free stuff, probably best not to pester the source of the free stuff and discourage them from doing this again in the future.
-
Scopes have shipped, mine arrives late next week.

Nice... Did you get an e-mail from them today?
I'm in Canada too but haven't heard anything from them in almost two months.
I know it's a ridiculous amount of scopes to deal with, across many countries, but it would have been good to keep the winners informed about how it's going in some official way.
-
If I was getting a free scope and it hadn't turned up yet, I wouldn't be saying anything until well into June!
This:
The winners are getting free stuff, probably best not to pester the source of the free stuff and discourage them from doing this again in the future.
.... three times over.
Yes, I know the wait may cause some people anxiety - but it's not as if you have put up a fist full of cash.
Breathe. Be patient ... and just realise how envious a lot of us are that you will be getting a free scope.
-
I totally agree with rx8pilot and brumby. Free stuff is free stuff.
I'm hoping a 'scope turns up at some point. I'm expecting to pay the VAT. I'm not expecting any extra freebies like decode options. It'll go on my bench, not eBay. And I'll be saying thanks to Keysight. Anything else would be impolite.

I would say that folks are excited to get their scopes, not necessarily impatient.
I think its fair to ask for shipping info. I have a standing "hold at depot" with Fedex, if the shipper has not put my phone number on the shipping label and I don't have a tracking number I wouldn't know if its just sitting on the shelf waiting for me. This recently happened to a few Cypress and ISSI orders of mine, I just happened to go to the Depot and they said they have 4 packages for me to sign for... to my surprise.
-
Scopes have shipped, mine arrives late next week.
Did anyone else got a reply from Keysight?
-
No email yet, but I was one of the later winners. My assumption is that they are going in order by who won first, but that's just a guess.
-

Sounds reasonable. It would be nice to hear something official from Keysight.
-
Scopes have shipped, but I'm not sure why the e-mails haven't gone out. I'll follow up with that individual.
-
Thanks, Daniel. You gave away a lot of scopes this year, so you must have lots of excited winners waiting out there.
-
Mine shipped Fedex and arrives Thursday, I would imagine it would be similar for everyone.
-
Update, most of the scopes have not left the factory yet, I was misinformed. |O
I'm doing everything I can to get them to ship as soon as humanly possible, thanks for your patience.
-
Totally understand. :-+ I am going to embrace patience for once in my life.
-
Waiting is difficult.....then the day comes and you act like an idiot.

Fun! Seems pretty normal behavior upon receipt of such an awesome piece of gear. ;D
-
Lel, I would say that's a reasonable reaction. :-DD

Well done!

Old news - as far as the calendar is concerned - but watching that again was just as engrossing as it was a year ago.
BTW - We were advised to stay tuned for the learning curve. Is there anything further on this - or did I just miss it?

It is almost time for a follow-up video. I have been very busy learning new things to take advantage of the new gear. The learning curve of the scope has been modest - actually quite easy to use. Learning how to move 6Gbps data all around a PCB is more difficult to learn as it turns out. On top of that - the 6Ghz probes are wildly expensive for a high-speed newcomer accustomed to 500 Mhz probes.
Anyway, I have one design going right now. The first attempt at high-speed sorta worked, but not very well. The scope immediately displayed the results of the problems and I dove back into the books, started a thread here on the EEVBlog and redesigned the PCB. It is supposed to arrive on Friday so I can assemble and test over the weekend to see how the changes worked.
The circuit is a functionally simple distribution amplifier that I am going to embed into one of my existing products. It is known art, therefore, a good place to jump in. If I can design high-speed serial receivers and cable drivers - can get that data into an FPGA where the fun really begins. The scope is being used exactly how I hoped - moving up and getting smarter faster. It has also led to the need for a variety of other instruments to make a complete bench - VNA, HD-SDI Analyzer, more probes, RF sim software, 4 more years of college, etc.
-
:-+
-
I think it's not an unusual reaction when winning such a scope :-+
-
I was hoping I might find out first hand with this year's Australian competition ... but, alas, it was not to be.
-
This has gone a bit quiet does that mean people have got their scopes? :( I have not heard any more and have not had an email yet.
-
I've not had a scope or shipping email yet. I'm not worried though, as Daniel is on the case.
-

I haven't gotten any shipping information yet either. The last I heard from Keysight was May 5th because I was wondering how they were getting on with the scopes so I finally decided to e-mail them just to make sure everything was OK.
Josh said my info had already been sent out to the shipping people so all we can do is wait.
-
(http://www.propagandaposters.us/loose-lips-sink-ships.jpg)
No information yet, perhaps I should check if a pigeon has been sent?
-
I too haven't heard anything since the beginning of April. I had sent them an email asking when the scopes would arrive and was told 'hopefully sometime in May'.
Still a couple of weeks left. :)
-
I'm working on it! Feel free to keep bugging Josh >:D
-
Oh-oh.
Better tell Josh to brace himself.
-
I was actually a winner myself. First time winning anything of significance since ZZ-Top tickets in 1983. Hopefully we will see the scope soon! ;D
-
Maybe it would be possible to send the winners a voucher for a local contributor to speed things up.
-
Just got my shipping email. Thanks Keysight :-+
-
Just got my shipping email too, so I hope that means they're all being sent out. Thank you!
-

We tried something similar to that for 2016, it was a nightmare. Most of them went well, but a couple took a lot longer than we wanted.
-
Yup, got mine today too. :-+

Still waiting for my shipping confirmation email, but I'm hopeful it's coming soon
-
Mine was just delivered. Thank you. :-)
DHL UK don't seem to demand VAT before delivery like the Post Office do, but I expect an invoice will follow.
-
Mine has made it from MY, TW, JP, then Alaska, Memphis, Ontario, Quebec then should make it to the Atlantic tonight. I love tracking packages. It's fun to see where all the depots are in the world. The airport FedEx uses in Japan is build on what looks like a man-made island.
-
Greetings!
Haven't received my tracking email yet.
-
I have just received a message from DHL. They have picked up my scope in Malaysia. I am looking forward to see it in Denmark.
I hope that DHL is a fast company :)
Best regards
-
Photos everyone! Photos. Videos are a bonus.
-
Greetings!
Haven't received my tracking email yet.
Go ahead and shoot Josh an e-mail.
-
Email and tracking today for me. Passing through Japan now...
Thank you!
-
Josh also sent me the much anticipated 'shipped' email with the tracking number today. I'm looking forward to using the DSOX1102G on my bench. Thank you very much Keysight !
-
I thought I'd gotten over it ... but little nigglings of scope envy are surfacing ... ever so slightly.
-
Mine was just delivered. Thank you. :-)
DHL UK don't seem to demand VAT before delivery like the Post Office do, but I expect an invoice will follow.
That raises an interesting question - do you have to pay VAT on prizes in the UK?? I had no idea....
DAVE
-
This has been discussed (a lot). I'll try to summarise.
You pay VAT and import duty on anything coming into the country from outside the EU. It is based on the value of an item, not what you paid for it. It's the recipient's responsibility, not the seller's. Sometimes marking a lower value on the package will work (e.g. Chinese eBay items) but sometimes it won't.
-
FYI, on the "Customs Invoice" PDF I received, the PDF indicates a value of "152.48" (no monetary unit). Not sure if that number is the same for everyone or converted to local currency. I assume that number is dollars for me. In any case, I have no idea how they arrived at that. Anyone else see a different number? Additionally, it is coded as "Goodwill/Giveaway/Donation/Gift". Maybe these facts will help people with customs. Being in the US, I rather expect not to be hit with customs on this.
-
Mine was also $152.48. Let's see if that is taken as the value for VAT purposes. I'd have thought it would, but you never know.
-
Sorry for being a bother, I'm in the same boat as Ghostus. No shipping email yet.
What's Josh's email?
-

What's Josh's email?
His email is scopemonth@keysight.com
He told me that he sends a new set of tracking information each day so he'll send me it as soon as it ships.

I drew a path on Google Maps with all points it's gone through and the total distance is a bit over 17000 km. It went over the top of the Pacific then all the way across Canada to the Atlantic. FedEx emailed me an update now that it's reached my province saying it won't get here today so it should arrive on Monday instead. That's just what happens when you live in a remote area.
FedEx is lucky we have house numbers now. :)
When I was younger, delivery people needed to ask random locals to find someone's house. Canada post is still handier than courrier companies because you can pick up your parcel at the post office.

Yup, same for me. I'm not sure how it works in Canada yet but I guess I'll find out on Monday.

DHL contacted me today to give my email and identification number for customs but still no shipping mail info from Josh :-/O
I was expecting it was about my aliexpress delivery and almost sent them wrong invoice because they asked for it but then noticed shipping from malaysia. a call back to them and seems like customs & VAT has been paid already :-+

Very kind from Keysight.
I hoope I get in the next few days a shipping message.

I now have proof that Dave Jones has tiny hands :)
I just unboxed my DSO1102G and it's even smaller than I imagined.
That you Daniel, Josh and the rest of the team who made this ridiculously big contest happen.

Well, it looks like one of my probes is defective. The compensation signal is all slanted looking and I can't fix it just by twiddling the little adjuster on the probe (it gets better but nowhere near correct). At first I thought it was an AC versus DC coupling this but it doesn't seem to make any difference if I change it.
When I do a Probe Check it gives strange results too. Most of the time it just tells me "The probe attenuation on channel 1 is not correct. We are unable to detect its attenuation so please set it to the correct value and start Probe Check again." but sometimes it tells me the probe is set to 100.0:1 which of course is impossible with this probe. It's the same if I use channel 2.
The probe is set to 10X and the scope channel is also set to 10.0:1. Setting them both to 1X gives the same error.
The other probe seems to work fine though. The signal is nice and square and the test works.
I guess tomorrow I'm going to have to find out who to contact at Keysight.
-
My first thought would be to measure impedance through the probes and see if they match. That won't tell you everything or even close to it but it might back up that something is obviously off because I would think they should measure the same.
-
Well, my scope turned up on Friday and I haven't stopped playing with it since. It's a fantastic piece of kit and I'm really grateful to Keysight for sending it to me.
You've made a middle aged man very happy.
-

Well about as much as I can do with the equipment I have is measure the resistance from the tip of the probe to the center pin of the BNC when switched to X10 and the good one measures around 9 megaohm as you'd expect and the other doesn't measure on my meter at all.
At X1 the good one is 400ohm and the other still gives me no ohms reading on my multimeter.
I guess I'll go find the correct part of the Keysight website or forums to ask about this now.
At least now I have more information to give them. Thanks for the help.

The fastest way to get a replacement is to call up your local call center - they should get you taken care of quickly.
-
OK, I spoke to someone yesterday and they're going to try and figure something out. He wasn't sure what to do considering I won the scope in a contest and they probably haven't had any calls about the DSOX1102G and probably also the N2140A probes yet because it's so new.
I also tried to register the scope on the website and it says "Unrecognized Serial Number" so I got an e-mail from someone who requested I send them the exact URL and a screenshot of the page.
I remembered that the integrated DVM was a free option you get with product registration.
-
I wonder how many scopes they send per day.
-
I see few UK winners, did you need to pay taxes/customs or do you know if invoice will follow?
-
Have you not received the tracking number in your email, too?
-
I received SMS messages from DHL today. They want 25€ for handling the customs. I'll call them tomorrow and tell them to leave the package at the customs. I can do it myself for free. I did not receive any email from Keysight but still got the invoice after emailing and asking for it them.
-
Ok, here it is next to its older cousin. Frozen banana for scale.

Just called DHL and this was also the case for me. They were sorry for sending me wrong SMS messages. I should get my scope on Tuesday :-+
-
There did seem to be some confusion around SMS messages. I got texts about someone else's delivery but emails about mine. I almost rescheduled the shipment for the other recipient before I realised it wasn't mine!
-
Anyone else get contacted recently? Josh emailed me a couple days ago, saying that my name was chosen after they eliminated all invalid entries. Saying that email made my day is a bit of an understatement. ;D
I've since filled in and sent out the paperwork; now I'm just waiting for a reply from them.
-
Congrats!

... only 9 months to go .............??

This year was also awesome. Just received my package :)

I registered the scope and downloaded the DVM option from

I calibrated one of the probes and let the scope run for about an hour. The compensation was still good.

Taxes and customs had been paid by sender for me and an other winner. Is this the case for all winners?
-
I see few UK winners, did you need to pay taxes/customs or do you know if invoice will follow?
It's been 11 days since my scope was delivered and I've heard nothing about VAT yet from DHL UK. Had no indication that it's been paid either so it may still be to come.
Either way, I'm happy and grateful to Keysight for an awesome scope. The tax is my responsibility so I'll gladly pay it if asked.

Thanks for the link to the DVM option. :-+ I assumed it would only show up on the MyKeysight page once I registered and not be an open link like that.
I tried registering my scope last week and the website just tells me "Unrecognized Serial Number"
I got a response from someone at Keysight and they said
Congratulations on winning a DSOX1102G scope!
Keysight apologizes that the appropriate information has yet to be uploaded into the Keysight systems so that the scope you won during Scope Month could be registered.
The information is being delivered to the teams that will enter the serial number, warranty, and licensing information into the appropriate systems.
Unfortunately, We don’t have an estimate yet of when the data upload will be complete. We hope to have a better answer for you early next week.
Again, our apologies that you’re not able to get the scope registered just yet.
-
Woot. It came today. Everything looks good. Probes were even compensated 100% correctly right off the bat. Thanks again!

Yup, i got that same email on the 31st, just waiting [in]patiently to hear back from keysight!
-
Have you heard back from Josh yet? I've yet to see anything in my inbox from him.
Hopefully my entry wasn't dropped...
-
Just an update...
I still can't register my scope because it's an "unrecognized serial number" and I haven't heard back from anyone about my defective probe.
I'm going to wait a while longer before bothering them again. I hate contacting people about stuff like this anyway.
-

I emailed them last Thursday and they said they would be getting in contact with us some time this week (I have not received said contact as of this moment). He confirmed that he did have my information and everything was good to go. I can only assume that they are waiting to do it all in one go once they've gotten responses from everyone. I don't think you should be too worried at the moment. I will definitely post on here once I hear anything else from them. Hang in there!
-
Update on the unrecognized serial number thing - the serial numbers have to be added manually along with some other info. I'm told they will hopefully be all uploaded into our systems by the end of next week.
-
why isn't ebay flooded with keysight scopes yet?? :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

I guess people like these ones. ;D

I just registered to say I got a very similar email (But with a different part number ;D)
I'm freaking stunned, and somewhat terrified of customs.
-
@nelsonm, I obviously can't guarantee you won't have rough customs issues, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it - I expect it will be minimal.
-
@Keysight_DanielBogdanoff
I got notice that I had won in the drawing on Jun 13. I replied to the notice email on Jun 14 with all my paperwork scanned and within a single pdf. I did receive the automatic reply to the mailbox.
I haven't had any other response. I'm just so excited, and the lack of response is getting me kind of panicky. Though the message tells me to not panic.
Thanks for your time and any clarification you might be able to give. :)
-
For the record I'm still waiting for a response and I was picked in late May. I wouldn't worry about it too much, yet.
-
same
-
Ditto, and I emailed a couple of days ago to check, no response....
-
Things should be under control, don't panic yet! Feel free to e-mail Josh asking for an update.
-

I did indeed receive a email from Josh so all good, I will sit back relax and look forward to getting it :)
-
Has anyone heard any new information on the re-draw? Its been over two months since I got the email saying I won and I still haven't heard anything new since then. I tried emailing josh at that email a few times recently but he hasn't responded, and its no longer sending the auto-generated "Thanks for the e-mail! This account is monitored..." response.
-
I received a response from Josh at the end of June, and he said there was a significant backlog that they were working through. I haven't heard back since, nor have I asked for an update since then.
I was told that my information had been processed a while ago, but I'm still waiting on the scope's arrival. I'll still hold my breath for now, but I'll probably send Josh another email.

I just went back through my email. Just a little insight or perspective. I was notified I was a scope winner on March 6. I was notified of shipment on May 25. I received it on June 6. (FedEx took longer than usual, it sat in Narita, Japan for 5 days for some reason.) Keysight is taking care of their paying customers, and I respect that. I don't have any inside information, but for me it was about three months. I still greatly appreciate the free scope. For "entry level" it is a great piece of gear. I hope you get yours soon and start enjoying it.

Totally agree, mine is scheduled to arrive via DHL next Tuesday :)

So, did yours come in? I need to live vicariously through you while i wait for mine!!!

I need to live vicariously through you ....
Sounds like the underlying tone of this whole thread...... ;)
-

There is always next year, if they keep this promotion up.
-
I actually won this year, just still waiting on the thing to ship. I actually got my email around the same time StuUK got his, but they recently emailed me saying they lost my info and had to restart the process :(
Its all good though, I'm not complaining. It will get here when it gets here. Free stuff is free. :-+
-
Impressive patience, Mayo. Hope you get your scope soon.
-
Just got my scope on Friday! I didn't receive an email stating that the scope was shipped, so it turned out to be a pretty nice surprise and a great way to start the weekend.
Anyone else have trouble installing the DVM license? All I got was the message "License installation error. The license was not installed."
I decided to open the .dvm file in Notepad++ and noticed that it was hardcoded for a specific DSOX1102A serial number, and I wasn't given an option to input my own scope's model and serial number either.

DVM installed just fine. As did other licences.
-
Congrats on the scope! In some cases the shipping is so fast by the time we get tracking the package has been delivered - this was potentially one of those cases.
Also, for your DVM license, try using a different flash drive?
-
Thanks! I was able to get the DVM feature enabled after I sent you my protocol decoder request and installed the license file you sent me, interestingly enough.
-
I'm just curious Keysight Daniel B., can you provide a rough estimate for the percent of competed shipments? I'd just like to know if I'm in the middle of the pack/beginning/or straggling at the end in my wait. I haven't heard back from Josh in the two weeks or so since my last message, and they said that my 'scope was going to manufacture about a month and a half ago... It's totally okay if you don't have numbers though.
-
Got my Scope, many thanks Keysight looking forward to using it. Mentions been made in this forum about a Protocol Decoder Licence? Have I missed something :)
-
The DSOX1102G has optional upgrades to enable the DVM and serial decoders through license keys. If you ask Daniel (nicely of course! :) ) I'm sure he could help you out with that. (On that note, because of the upgrades you can't just go and sell the scope immediately after upgrading them - but why would you do that? ;) )
-

No promises, but shoot me a PM.
-
I would like to state that I received my oscilloscope today.
To everybody at Keysight, thanks a bunch!
-
Nice! Hopefully you'll be enjoying it for quite a while, I know I am :)
That said, has anyone else had their scope crash after saving a file to a USB drive? Interestingly enough, I got a mouse pointer (!) on screen but couldn't do anything useful after that point and had to power-cycle the scope, and I haven't been able to reproduce the problem since.
It does make me wonder just how much of the Windows CE desktop components are still in the scope firmware - there's gotta be some secret key combo to open the Windows shell... right? ;)
-
Hey folks, here's my requisite "Yay, my scope arrived!" post
Thanks so much Keysight!
-
That is pretty cool! The 4000x - you must have been pretty excited when that delivery was made.

It was a lovely feeling! Of course, I was at work when Fedex arrived, so I got to hold on to my anticipation for about three hours before I could actually make the pickup :)
I was too excited to even take pictures while opening it, the cat picture was taken by my partner while I was taking off my jacket and clearing a spot on the table.
