I normally go, it's a pretty good day out... provided the roof stays up this year, of course  :palm:

Looks like I may need to leave it til the Wed or Thurs, due to having to do an emergency build of some mod boards to rescue a £100K installation because someone (not me) didn't read a datasheet properly...

Let's hope the roof's still on - expect some sleepy looking exhibitors -

They had a problem with the wind the other year where they have to close it early. They should have a proper building rather then a tent.

I have to agree.

Of all the things to have engraved on my headstone, "a lighting fixture landed on his head" isn't something I'd aspire to.

 :-DD :-DD :-DD :-DD

You know, I've designed some steel structures in my time and looking at those shiny elegant thing I always wondered: How do they cross such large spans with such flimsy beams? Mine are usually 3 times as heavy. Am I doing my calculations wrong? Am I wasting people's money? Am I just incompetent?

This lasted until I saw a few of them collapse for stupid reasons. Mine look a bit crude in comparison but at least they are up to code in every respect, and above code in some aspects that seemed necessary.

Been to the show today. The tent is still up.

The show feels smaller this year, empty stands at each end of the hall.

Saw some nice CNC and pick and place machines. Hmmmm.

There was a fairly big side annexe - pretty similar size to last year - I think the empty-looking ends were mostly where they'd not finished walling the ends off off due to the late build-up.
There were a few companies missing from last year, but also a few new ones.
What amazes me is the number of companies doing cool mechanical robot stuff that don't make the effort to do cool demos - there was a robot taking photos and doing a hand-drawing of the picture with pencil, and a fast pick/place robot but that was about it.
You kinda feel sorry for the poor people sat on a stand tucked away in the corner with nothing but a few posters, and everyone ignoring them.

So, what did we think?

The queue for BBQ pork sandwiches was mercifully short, so that was a good thing, obviously.

Other than that, I came away slightly underwhelmed. There seemed to be more of a focus on mechanical stuff and less on electronics than previous years, or maybe I just didn't have as many specific requirements to look out for than before. Either way, I was done by mid afternoon.

Maybe slightly more mech stuff - a few electronics companies from last year weren't there.
Also got the impression it was less busy.

And as always they didn't have enough seating at the catering areas.

It was my first time going so I quite enjoyed it.  I have a wonderful collection of pens and coasters now.

Did anyone else find that because the site was (I think) on a slight slope, you get a very weird disoriented feeling?
