Hey everyone!
I'm a little late starting this, but registration is open now for the big giveaway!
You can sign up here:
http://bit.ly/EEV2020 (http://bit.ly/EEV2020)
If you use this link you'll get an extra entry!
If you already signed up, you can put a +wave or +eevblog in your email address before the @ and that's 100% we won't flag you. For example, if you signed up with daniel@example.com you could sign up again with daniel+eevblog@example.com and you'll get the bonus entries.
Event details / giveaway specifics are here:
https://blogs.keysight.com/blogs/tech.entry.html/2020/01/21/keysight_wave_2020o-cM58.html (https://blogs.keysight.com/blogs/tech.entry.html/2020/01/21/keysight_wave_2020o-cM58.html)
And the first drawing will happen on the Keysight Labs YouTube channel here:
https://youtu.be/TXV2AFiKXfU (https://youtu.be/TXV2AFiKXfU)
The usual stipulations apply, and FAQs are here:

Good luck & happy testing!

Australia doesn't count again :(.
-
That's because they will likely find this stuff in the dumpster again :-D
-
I forgot to add +EEVBlog or +wave so I'll probably get flagged... Oh well.
-
I forgot to add +EEVBlog or +wave so I'll probably get flagged... Oh well.
You should be fine, we really only get snippy with the people who are taking significant advantage of the registration system.
-
I added "+eevblog" to my email address as instructed but did not receive a confirmation email after 30 min. No it was not in the spam folder either, it never came to the mail server. Anyone else is having problems with the confirmation email ?
-
"your entry has been confirmed", so I cannot enter again using +eevblog ?
-
That "+" thing is something that not all mail servers actually support as far as I know.
If they use it to respond with the +, you will not receive the mail if your server does not understand it.
Those that I know that support it are GMail, and two small german mail providers Mailbox.org and Posteo.de. There are for sure more though...

The list of eligible countries seems to vary from year to year quite a bit.
-
Yes, this year the list seems tiny.
-
My postfix install supported the '+' syntax by default.
-
I registered, but put None as the company, since I only do academic (non-paid, not-for-profit University projects, including in one educational fusor project) and open hardware/public domain hobbyist-level stuff (https://easyeda.com/NominalAnimal) in electronics. Let me know if that is not acceptable.
-
I'm also having the issue of no confirmation email. I received the wave 2020 email a while back saying to register but never the confirmation. I suppose it doesn't matter too much considering my chances but just thought I'd add myself to that list.
-
@Nominal Animal, that's 100% fine.
@maginnovision and @Bud can you DM me your email address and I'll check it?
@kripton2035 you can go ahead and do the +eevblog and you'll be fine. You might need to use a clean browser instance, though.
-
Malaysia is no more? :'( :-BROKE
-
I entered today -- actually I think I entered twice because I clicked the "Enter Now" button after confirming my email.
Question: When I come back tomorrow, should I just click the "Enter Now" button, or do I fill out the form again?
Thanks.
-
If it works like it did for me, just hitting the button should be enough.
Last week the button was not available yet. Yesterday evening after I got home from work, I opened the page with the link posted first here, and just clicked the button.
If I remember correctly it worked like that last year as well.
Browser: Firefox (latest), AdBlock+, no other Addons.
-
I don't see a live stream for today?
-
@Keysight DanielBogdanoff, I received the e-mail confirmation only on the first entry (subject line: Wave 2020 Entry - Almost Finished). All subsequent entries were not acknowledged. Is that alright?
-
@rsjsouza yes, that is how it should work. If the button changes or grays-out your entry is included.
-
@apblog the system won't let you get extra entries, and if you keep your cookies turned on / uncleared you'll only have to select the button.
-
Holy cow!
Don't know if I'm supposed to post this here or not, if
not, the moderators can delete it. :)
My name was drawn! 8) :o
I'm in shock!!
-
Congratulations! I was wondering if we'd get any EEVBlog members winning. The first year there seemed to be loads, but not so many in subsequent years - or maybe people were just quieter about it.
-
What did you win? All but the 2nd or 1st tier prizes I'd probably be giving away to someone I know.
-
The DSOX1204G Scope. :)
-
Congrats!
-
Thanks! :)
-
That's a cool scope. Hopefully you have a use for it, that's the best type of prize, haha.
-
Dave: is this the typical Keysight work place setup in the background?
I then should apply for a job at Keysight. I can imagine much worse jobs than sitting all day in my cubicle with an Atari 800XL and a Frogger cartridge :-DD

I volunteer to be given prizes. ;D

I can't seem to locate the list of eligible countries any more. Where can I find them?

That was a big WIN for me as well. Quite an interesting topic and obviously over-equipped approach to such common question (but that comes with working for a test equipment manufacturer).

I just noticed they use a 6,5 or 7,5 digit multimeter to prop up the FieldFox in that clip. What's the point of having it if you're not waving it around? ;D

That list is getting shorter year to year. So I've been pressing that button, and it was telling to me that "Your entry has now been confirmed." but I'm not eligible. Great.
-
Holy crap! I won a multimeter! Ok it's not the high end scope or VNA I was hoping for but it looks like a nice bit of gear and I can certainly put it to good use. As a longtime Fluke fan somewhat disappointed by their current offerings I'm looking forward to seeing what the Keysight meter is like. I never win anything, I feel lucky if I get $1 from one of those scratch tickets so I was kinda shocked when I got the email. Almost wondered if it was a scam.

Is that the handheld one? Definitely a fun piece of kit to have. Congratulations! :)
-
Some people complain about the range switch but I like it well enough I have 2.
-
Congratulations James Sweet! The U1282A is a very nice meter and fully featured. It can also be a weapon depending on the occasion. ;D
-
Congrats, James! I love my U1282As - my Fluke got pretty dusty once I got my hands on one of ours. That's at the home lab, of course, I wouldn't be caught dead with a Fluke at the Colorado Springs site!
-
Holy crap! I won a multimeter!
Congrats, James! The U1282A is a nice one. It's pretty large, but feature-filled. :-DMM
-
The machine that I registered on crapped out. Is there a way to get my daily entry on another machine?
-
Sure, just sign in. The specific machine is completely irrelevant, it's just a website.
-
Sign in where? The "landing page" tries to make me reregister.
-
Do that, with the same details.
The old machine cached that information in a cookie, so you just need to click the button. No cookie, no info for the website, and you need to enter the info again.
-
[…] I was wondering if we'd get any EEVBlog members winning. […]
Yeah, we do. ;D Actually, Keysight broke my record of never winning anything in my life. (Well, except the hearts of a very few women and my great kids.)
And man, this is good marketing, because we "old farts" influence the next generation of engineers. (I’m 60 years young now and might have to be killed before retiring …)
In case you wonder, of course I was after a new oscilloscope or maybe a bench multimeter, because my lab needs a refresh, but hey, I won a U1282A DMM. Even after 5 years, this is still a great workhorse and comes in quite handy. Thanks, Keysight!
-
I enjoyed the Mar 10 and 11 videos. I wish someone with that kind of test gear would test and report on the myriad DC-DC supplies available at the usual suspects, fleabay and banggood and et cetera. In my opinion, it would make for an interesting Youtube video series (mailbag style) for us hobbyists and perhaps for prototype builders as well -- it is a bit wasteful for everyone to buy a selection on their own, then try to test them to see if/which one works...
You know, like Big Clive does for lights and gadgets, but for cheap DC-DC modules.
-
How long does it typically take for something to happen? I filled out the form and emailed it back as soon as I got it but I have not gotten any sort of confirmation that it was received. I'm not in any real rush but I don't want to find out a month from now that they never got anything from me and moved on.
-
I've tried a few browsers and settings and couldn't get entry to work, aside from one or two confirmation emails but nothing lately.
I'm not bothering with the contest, the entry process is either not working or it's not working.
Fire the bonehead that made a webpage "Whoops, looks like something went wrong." after entering all that crap over and over again. My grandmother can write that kind of code.
-

I had the same doubt regarding e-mails:

- Get a form filler, then you only need to enter your information one time
- The fact that it works for everyone else tells me it likely has to do with specific browser addons/blockers/etc, you can try a "clean (https://www.firefox-usb.com/)" browser instead of messing with your settings.
-
Thing is, this all worked on the first day and I even got a confirmation email.
I tried it again with all browser add-ons (i.e. adblock) off, third-party cookies enabled.
So all the analytics on the registration page: Adobe, demdex.net, google, doubleclick etc. happening, it still goes to "Whoops something went wrong".
Tried another PC and version of Firefox, the registration page jumped immediately to "Whoops, looks like something went wrong." Javascript is such rocket science, and generating a useful error message would be great.
It not a good day, for the stock markets or coronavirus so I leave this alone as I have low patience.
I don't even know if Keysight is monetizing my private data, entering a phone number etc. to be shared with third-parties is not in a spirit of respect.
Fluke/Fortive has these contests done in a superior manner and profiles a person much better. Maybe another year Keysight can fix/improve it.

Thats fair. They will send you a lot of white papers and promo material directly. Other than that I haven't seen anything.
https://www.keysight.com/main/editorial.jspx?pmode=Privacy&cc=CA&lc=eng (https://www.keysight.com/main/editorial.jspx?pmode=Privacy&cc=CA&lc=eng)
Tek pissed me off by passing on my information directly to distributor after I asked for a quote from Tek, but that is probably normal procedure.
-
If Fluke or Tek are ever giving away free gear I'm happy to sign up for those too, I'm not picky about the brand when I don't have to pay for it. I don't know why those errors are occurring but nobody else has mentioned hitting it so I'm not so sure that Keysight is to blame. I've entered every day and it has always worked whether using my laptop or my phone.
-
I just tried entering a bogus name and every other field in the form, and the entry went fine :palm:
Obviously I must be a bot. It's all green checkmarks in the form either way. No checks for valid city/state/phone number, terrible webpage design.
Firefox dev tools reports 226 CSS errors, 3 Javascript errors for loading google analytics.js and 5 errors over tracking protection- even though I don't have that enabled.
I'd rather enter based on a Keysight account... I just clicked on myKeysight and got a French webpage, I am not Canada Français and no button for EN :-DD pure torture.
Fluke was using a 10 question multiple-choice quiz as a valid entry. It meant you had to read the marketing blurb and remember a few specs about the featured product. You did get awareness of a product that way. Instead of just filling out personal info in a form.
-
I've never received an email confirmation though I've resubmitted several times with the checkbox set. No error, but no confirmation email, either. :-//
Better luck next year, I guess. :P
-

I say that every year.

Question to Daniel and all winners here so far: I was drawn as a winner of one U1282A on March 11 (Matthias Hormann) but didn't receive any notice or email yet.
So how long does it usually take, and actually how does Keysight notify winners?
-
Hi @Moonbase - we should have sent out the email already, but if you didn't feel free to reach out to use at wave [at] keysight.com and we'll get things squared away.
-
Also, for the record, we do NOT monetize our database. But, we may subject you to emails about whitepapers, etc., in a legally acceptable manner.
-
Whew, you are fast! 8)
Cheers for the answers, Daniel, sent you an email!
And good to know for us that you don't share our data too far. Nothing against a few whitepapers and new product data info here, of course.
-
...in a legally acceptable manner.
So fancy! ;D
-
@Winners: Did you all get your "winner" emails on the same day?
I still only got an answer from Keysight asking me to check my spam folder (which of course I did on the first day).
Seems my usual "luck" holds and I didn’t "win" anything after all (even if it was in the video). :-\
I don’t believe (and certainly don’t accuse) Keysight of dealing in odd practices or fake drawings, but I really start wondering what might have happened.
And yes, of course I checked my email address for reachability.
-
Question to Daniel: is it possible to win twice? Either in the same wave, or in different waves. I'm asking because I once sort of won, but at the end it turned out my country was not eligible (and still is, but I don't loose the hope for the future). I'm worried that in the system I'm marked as already having a price and can't participate again.

I wasn't getting emails from them either for the confirmation. Out of 4 emails sent, I got 1. I suspect they need to keep trying.
-
In the last years, there was a written winner list published.
Does that already exist for this years winners?
I missed most videos, and have not received any confirmation mails, except for the initial sign-up confirmation.
-
@Winners: Did you all get your "winner" emails on the same day?
I did. Is it possible that there is someone else with your name who won?
Question to Daniel: is it possible to win twice?
You can only win once per giveaway. As per their terms and conditions (https://www.keysight.com/main/editorial.jspx?cc=US&lc=eng&ckey=2939152).

From what I understand there is no list this year. Its easy to skim through each video.
As per terms and conditions (https://www.keysight.com/main/editorial.jspx?cc=US&lc=eng&ckey=2939152) you can request a list of the winners by mailing keysight.
-
Hm. Got an email now, requesting to send a "Wave 2020 Sweepstakes Declaration Release" (PDF) back to some email address ending in "…@non.keysight.com". "NON Keysight"? Looks a little suspicious, was yours the same email address?
The document itself looks quite legit.
-
Hm. Got an email now, requesting to send a "Wave 2020 Sweepstakes Declaration Release" (PDF) back to some email address ending in "…@non.keysight.com". "NON Keysight"? Looks a little suspicious, was yours the same email address?
It is a subdomain; anything.keysight.com is controlled by the same instance that controls keysight.com (edited: unless they delegate it to someone else; in this case, the source for authoritative information on both non.keysight.com and keysight.com is ns1.keysight.com and hostmaster.keysight.com, i.e. the non.keysight.com subdomain is in Keysight control).
Furthermore, a mail service lookup (host -t mx keysight.com ; host -t mx non.keysight.com) shows that both are serviced by the same mail servers.
In summary, the subdomain name "non" might look odd, but there is nothing suspicious in it. To investigate it further, I'd need to examine the mail headers, especially each mail server in the full From: chain. If I were you, I wouldn't bother.
-
Cheers for the heads-up @Nominal Animal. Didn’t think of checking the MX headers. ;-)

This was the email account that emailed me.
Glad you got the email nonetheless.

Just ask Daniel Bogdanoff.
-
Hi there, sorry for the delay in responding. The "@non.keysight.com" is used for contractors so it is legit. We brought in some help with fulfillment this year because that is definitely not my strong suit :).
-
And It's gone... Too late for me to at least try to get it... Well next year then...
-
@Daniel: Thanks for confirming! So time for the paperwork now. :-)
Stay healthy everyone!
-
I filled out the form and sent it in right away the day I received it, still have not heard anything further. Should I expect any sort of confirmation that the paperwork was received? When are the prizes typically shipped out?
-
Hi James,
Feel free to ping Renee and confirm, she's likely giving folks time to get back to her and will respond en masse. Prize shipping is a bit TBD right now, we're assessing the impact of COVID-19 on our shipping and supply chain. TBH, I would be shocked if they went out in April.
-
Hi Daniel!
Any news on the prizes? Are you expecting a delay on the fulfilment? Crazy times we live in so I understand if it will be delayed.
Cheers
-
I think we're right on the brink of getting them out, I'll check! We were a bit backed up for a while but I think that's tapering off.
-

Awesome! Looking forward to an update!
Super excited for my scope to come.
-
@Daned33: Couldn’t reply, you inbox is full.
No news, and it’s July now. Even taking Corona into account, this starts to get a little disappointing. In my business life, I usually try to over-fulfill instead of disappoint, even with the sweepstakes.
Fortunately, I never rely on "gifts", but this makes me wonder about delivery times to normal customers. Bad marketing.
Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
-
Be patient. Yes, more than you have been so far.
Keysight have not - as far as any posts here have identified - failed to deliver prizes. It has taken an inordinate amount of time in the past and it will likely take an inordinate amount of time again - especially this year.
... but this makes me wonder about delivery times to normal customers.
I don't. Who do you think they are looking after?
You are getting a freebie. Paying customers should get priority, don't you think?
Bad marketing.
A tad harsh IMO - but your disappointment is understandable.
-
"No customer is too small"
Maybe as a suggestion, have an email distribution list where the winners can get notified about their status, once a month wouldn't hurt.
Also, as another suggestion, have an email list for the losers "Thank you for participating. You are receiving this because your name was not selected during the draw. Looking forward to seeing you next year. If you cannot wait, check out the products that were given away (below)". It only takes a little effort and could even result in some sales.
-
Looks like they're being sent out!! :scared:
No updates from keysight, but DHL sent me a message informing me that I have a shipment inbound.
Ah super excited.
Edit: Arrived!! :scared: :box:

Edit2: Doh! Forgot the grounding! |O Was too excited to turn it on!

Sorry for not being on here more in the last month or so, we had a baby so I took >4 weeks off (yay!). I got word yesterday that a huge number of prizes shipped out so we should see a lot of them showing up in the next few days. We had a few hiccups with COVID and the original person handling fulfillment got pulled off it so we've been doing some scrambling.
Prizes WILL be delivered, I guarantee it. Sorry it's taking so long!
-
Now the beer scope makes more sense. One last fun project that is also the gift that keeps on giving.
-
@Keysight DanielBogdanoff - Congratulations! (We'll understand if you succumb to a lack of sleep.)
-
Congratulations on the baby, Daniel!
-
Congratulations Daniel!
And thanks again to Keysight for the giveaway! Once in a lifetime experience to win a sweepstakes!
Cheers :-+
-

Haha, yes. Trying to have a bit more fun with the channel, too!
-
Annnnnd...
Here's mine, came yesterday. Doing an FRA on a brute force filter.
(Sorry about the poor image quality, not the greatest lighting conditions)
Curve was more-or-less what I expected.
Thanks, Keysight!
And congrats Daniel! :-+

Any more updates here? We're edging into late September and I have still not received my prize, I'd nearly forgotten about it until something reminded me recently.
