Anyway, for fast food there are allowed amounts of things like rat droppings, hairs and insect parts that they have to follow. I wonder if this means if it is not there they have to add it in....

I'm not sure there is any allowable limits on rat droppings in food safety standards. I don't know about overseas but there are strict rules when it comes to pest-proofing premises where food is stored and prepared. On top of that, food needs to be stored in such a way that pests cannot access it.

Well, those "poop tubes" are cleaned beforehand, and a loooong tradition ;-)

I also heard some years ago that "Apfelmus" (german for Apple puree, that is quite popular here in industrial form) also has contents of rodents in it, simply because from time to time some mice/rats can enter the apple storage and get acccidentally processed. In fact, it is tolerated, and I do not know if there is a legal limit for it, or if it should not be there at all, but no one really tests for it...
