Title: Arduino based mini-sumo robot on Kickstarter
Post by: deksnis on February 26, 2016, 01:13:18 pm
Hi, usually I am not active poster on forum, but today I wanted to share more info about my project on Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1300541966/sumoboy-arduino-based-robotics-kit-for-sport-and-e?ref=category_popular).  :)

For last few years my hobby/sport have been robotics, which was very good way of developing my skills in electronics, programming and mechanics.
By continuously working on improvements and engineering challenges in our robots, we were able to win main competitions (RoboGames (USA), International Robot Sumo tournament (Japan), RobotChallenge an Robotex (Europe)).
One day I also was beginner in robotics, so I know how much effort is necessary to assemble your first robot.
There is a lot of unknown things. Such as, how to choose (motors, sensors, battery, motor driver, micro-controller, wheels).

As we see robotics as good and fun way to gain engineering skills, we created robot - "SumoBoy".
It is meant to be simple as possible for beginners, but in same time with good built quality and high chances to achieve good results in competitions.
It is suitable for enthusiasts, schools and robotic clubs, because it comes with development platform and book where basics of electronics, programming and principles of robot operation is explained.

We have launched Kickstarter campaign few days ago:

God that thing is wicked, I love it! Would certainly whoop my robot design. Of course I went with a different approach and sacrificed performance to make it as simple as possible. I created an open source 3d printable design targeting a younger less experienced audience to try to bring them into the sport. If you're interested link here:
