Finally a serious 3D printer
« on: March 14, 2015, 01:37:49 am »
That's not a 3D printer - this is a 3D printer !!

Don't know if this has been covered but I thought this 3D printer was quite impressive.

It looks good on paper and is well presented. I would wait before handing over $6000 though. I have seen similar well engineered printers ultimately fail, because of manufacturing and delivery problems.

Printing 4 things at once is nice, not sure it is worth the extra $4000 over a decent $2000 single head printer.

It's funny how they claim 4 times faster print speed. I guess they're technically correct if you want to print the same model 4 times, but I think most hobbyists are fine with just one copy at the time.

I'm not sure $4,000 3D printer and "hobbyist" go together TBH. This is more for small business / people who sell on Etsy/etc.

no no no. this printer is just another that printer, specifically made for mass production like intent, claimed as 4X speed? i guess because of the 4 print head, each one with only normal speed. "hybrid hot end" they say? didnt you recognize the picture? its just the normal bowden type hot end, known for its mediocreness in reprap community. the xy plane build volume you probably need to divide it by 4 so its like what? 255mm x 115mm max footprint? well $300 3dprinter is better in that respect... open frame not closed control chamber? seriusly serious? if i need volume i'll buy 4 prusa, only $1200, twice the footprint, one damage is not all damage unit. but here's the kicker for the claimed as "serious printer".
Quote
"You are responsible for mounting the hot end to your printer, which may include custom mounting brackets, depending on the type of printer you own. The kit does not include enough tubing for bowden applications. You must supply your own tubing
pay $6000 for that "serious printer" and then i can offer you $60 professional advice on which is the better bowden tube its nothing! 1/100th of your total serious investment, and then you can buy it from china ebay. ;) about the custom mounting bracket? good luck on that! for a $6000 price, they cannot afford to give away the adequate length of bowden tubing :palm:

and whats the point of mass production of ugly looking FDM print output? for "more serious printer" cheapest "print volume/price" around, in US region i'll vote for http://shop.re3d.org/#product-slider (unassembled) still open frame, if you need closed chamber at that volume you need to think 5 or 6 figure invesment...

I am not impressed. What's the price going to be? $5k apparently.

For $5k you can have 4 separate printers if you need to print in parallel and it would be far better since one piece failing a print (failed prints happen) doesn't mean you have to wait for the rest of them to finish before you can start over.

The biggest issue with 3D printers is calibration. It's hard enough to calibrate a single extruder printer, with 4 extruders this becomes even worse. Especially if you're trying to use different filament. You are very limited with what you can do if you can only calibrate the extruder, because motion is tied to other extruders.

This is all well presented and it looks neat in theory but it's just another one of those Kickstarter "more time spent on making an ad for it then designing a solid product".

Also it's not a RepRap which is a minus in my book.
