Hi there,

Not long ago, a small group of tech enthusiasts started putting together a maker space near the town of Tamworth, NSW, Australia. It is currently located in Currabubula, to be exact, on a founding member's property. There are computers, vintage computers, video games, 3d printers, pinball machines, soldering tools, lathe, a full workshop...

It is great to finally find one outside of the big cities. (The next great thing would be to have an annual maker fair in the country)

Since it's started, the group gained a lot of enthusiasm, and support locally. Some schools, administrations and businesses have made some very nice material donations, such as office desks, computers, projectors,...

We are now looking at moving to the town of Tamworth itself, where most of the population is, or goes to for shopping. That would make it easily accessible and open more often.

We are currently in the running for a $5000 grant from the Greater Bank (yes, it is the name of the bank), up against two other local associations. The public gets to vote online to decide who gets the money. So far, we are leading but I would like, on the behalf of the association, to rally more votes, to secure our position, and to show that there is a strong support for this kind of things.

The vote happens on this web page:

https://www.greater.com.au/greaternewengland

All you need to do is scroll down to find our group, the Tamworth Tech Shed and click on the little blue 'up arrow' below to support us.
You can vote multiple times for the next few days, with a limit of one vote per hour, per person.

We would greatly appreciate the support.

Thank you

Voted.

And I'm not suggesting anyone set up an hourly voting script or anything  ;D

Just FYI, voting silently fails if you have uBlock Origin enabled. Monitoring the console in Firefox (obviously not for the purpose of creating an hourly voting script ;) ), the following error pops up:

Quote
Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at https://trackla.stackla.com/. (Reason: CORS request did not succeed). [Learn More]

Whitelisting stackla.com for that domain allowed voting to succeed.

Thank you to those who have voted and/or are still voting.

A bit over three days to go. Hopefully, we can maintain the position.

I'm late to the party, but it seems like they got $3000.  There is up to $5000 per month, but $3000 seems to be the max (first prize).

Hi there,

Sorry for the late answer. The last months has been a massive mess.
Indeed, thanks to everyone who supported, we received the $3000 grant.

I am assuming that the winner doesn't receive the totality of the $5000 but that the second and third place get part of it. Who know?
And does it matter? No, it doesn't, we are just grateful we received some money to put towards making our organisation better.

Thanks again to everyone who voted.

Ben
