Title: I just Kickstarted a KVM Switch like device but for electronics
Post by: bleckers on March 03, 2019, 07:29:37 am
I just released the Port MuxR Kickstarter - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sensordots/sensordots-port-muxr-a-kvm-switch-but-for-electron (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sensordots/sensordots-port-muxr-a-kvm-switch-but-for-electron)

It's a 8/16 channel, bi-directional, switched bus multiplexer that lets you branch out programming cables, logic analysers, debuggers and more.

Check it out and let me know if there's anything that you want to see or change :D

This is a cool idea. It's one if those things that I've needed once or twice in the past, but never enough to make something like it myself.

What kind if bandwidth does it support? How fast a signal can it switch?

The rise/fall time of the FETs is about 0.15ns which is calculated from its typical on state resistance (3 ohm) and load capacitance (50pF), so it could technically support into the GHz range under ideal conditions. However the circuit itself and connectors are definitely not designed for that. I am going to have some more in depth tests in the coming updates, but with what I have on hand currently, 50MHz square waves get through without too much attenuation and distortion (so say ~200Mhz bandwidth currently as a safe guess).

Nice project! I wish I had a need for such a board...

Cool, I’m going to check this out!

Your specification list should mention if it is Break before Make, or make before break or software settable. You are selling to engineers!
I would make the assumption break before make, but it it is nice to see in black and white.

Currently the software is just the order in which you issue commands (port enable/port disable e.g. you can have multiple ports enabled), so it's based on how you send the commands. But it could definitely have a setting in there to do this no problems :)

I'll make a note of this and update the software.

Edit: this was added to the firmware and posted in an update.
