I saw once an insurance company that gave a standard numbered plastic card with your name and blood type with a 0800 phone. If you call the 0800 they inform any medical data and they advise your ctcs. Pretty simple , already included in you car insurance, why spend K$ for something so simple ?

There has already been a lot of products like this.  One main difference- You can just look at the others, you don't have to spend time scanning it.

I guess they have extra money to spend for their own medical bracelet system to differentiate themselves.

They don't. It's a pointless product idea brainstormed by a couple of business people.
Ultimately, for things that really matter in an emergency (like medical stuff as you've listed) you wear a medical bracelet.
When you get creamed by a bus, the last thing the medical staff are going to care about is who to contact, they will be too busy saving your life.

I would think that in civil life, a unique ID that can be looked up in a central medical database will address most cases. In military and wars things are more chaotic.

However as Taguchi put it...Great research and development before production will pay off substantially in the end. Better to streamline the process first then go in after and try redesigning a broken system.

I once had a friend after September 11th with all the Support Our Troops ribbons and Breast Cancer awareness ribbons go into buisness making these magnets and he could not cut them out fast enough. With just a simple html website.

If they manage to take off with their campaign then those 5K were well-invested money, i would say. Shiny-shiny helps selling...

Soooo, it has an ID# and 4 digit PIN printed on it ... wtf. Why not just have an ID number that is 4 digits longer?  I wonder if the user/wearer gets to pick their PIN? I bet someone stupid enough to buy this might also pick the same PIN as their ATM card. That would be extra helpful to pick-pockets.

Does AU have an FDA equivalent that is as stupid as the US FDA? I remember hearing about a similar concept a while back... but using implantable RFID chips. IIRC the company decided to NOT allow any health information in the database linked to the ID number. If they had health information it would make the RFID chip a medical device and would need FDA approvals, i.e. gazillions of dollars.

I was going to be a smarty pants and suggest putting an MCU into something basic that's been around for years and years and then it dawned on me... I don't think there's anything left that hasn't had an mcu embedded in already...
