Lifx Bulbs

So the long-awaited Lifx bulbs started being delivered a couple of weeks back...I got one, and a couple of things I noticed are that it is substantially larger than a normal bulb, but also that it runs very hot.

I measured the outside of the housing at 197F.

Considering the long discussion we had about the Rigol DP832 heat sink issue, I am curious what other think about this?  To me, if the whole outer casing of the bulb is running at 197F (92C) in open air, the insides are substantially hotter considering the heat needs to get through the component to the board to the housing, etc.  And since the whole outer housing is the heat sink, all the electronics are surrounded by and being cooked by that.

Seems like it would be a recipe for a short life.

Thoughts?

Just make sure you have the emissivity set right for that measurement.

It's a cream white painted surface, I also tried putting a piece of black electrical tape on and readings were the same.  It matches my seat-of-the-pants touch feel of "wow, this thing is insanely hot" and someone else's measurements.

Seems way too hot for the exterior housing of an electronics device which contains an AC->DC converter, WiFi module, microcontroller, LED drivers, etc, no?  I can't imagine it having much of a life span. 

Curious what others think, especially after we just went through the whole DP832 fiasco.
It's not always the most popular person who gets the job done.
