NerO - An Energy Efficient Arduino UNO Compatible Design

Apparently FTDI, a company well known for  the ftdigate, started a new kickstarter project to fund an "Energy efficient Arduino"...

They're asking for £1,500...




Their "key-features" are somewhat weird...

so they made an arduino with a switching regulator as opposed to a linear one. and slapped on their 231x ...

They should also have filmed the video not in a restroom. And do you really need 3 takes to say 10 words?

I assumed FTDI was a large corp... I don't get why you would back an arduino with a switcher...

Does the board have a feature wherein it bursts into flames, burning down your city in the process all while playing a synthesized fiddle from an internal speaker? If not, I'm disappointed in the naming choice...

Good question, dont they have 1500 pounds somewhere?
Or are the usual sales channel not working? The one where you totally get real FTDI chips.

They really should have made it with a socketed processor and the ability to bootload blank chips.

So they essentially changed the power conditioning and switched out the USB bridge to use a device on their own product line, seems like a minimal effort marketing campaign..

This has already been posted by someone from FTDI as being an OSH project.

IMHO, FTDI has screwed hobbists so much that there's no place left for them in the Arduino scenario.
