Title: PCBite 2.0 - A new KickStarter for an upgraded version
Post by: pixelk on November 24, 2017, 09:04:39 pm
I guess, I'll start a dedicated topic as it's a new kickstarter, not just the same product than the one described here (the PCBite 1.0 ) : https://www.eevblog.com/forum/crowd-funded-projects/pcbite-the-professional-and-affordable-pcb-holder/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/crowd-funded-projects/pcbite-the-professional-and-affordable-pcb-holder/)

The PCBite 1.0 IndieGoGo got successful and was mentioned at least in a mailbag and in some soldering video from Dave, if my memory serves me correctly.
I bought a 1.0 at full price because I missed the original kickstarter. It was a bit pricey (74€/~ 88US$) but since I got it, it's my first choice wen soldering or de-soldering on a PCB. You get a firm and steady grip on the PCB and as it's flat on your work surface it won't move a bit (much more stable than all the third hands model I tried).

The version 2.0 comes with a larger surface, which is nice for the larger PCBs and a pair of flexible arms to attach probes to. I'm sceptic about the arms ability to stay put in place once moved, but the larger plate is enough for me that I pledged for the "upgrade" tier (253 SEK / ~ 26 € / ~31 US$ - aimed at those that already have a 1.0 kit).

There are other tiers for people wanting the 1.0 and 2.0 together, or even just for the 1.0 (591 SEK / ~60€ / ~72 US$).

You'll need to add postage depending on your country to the price.

They shipped their original crowdfunding in a honourable timeframe, So I'm confident the second one will be the same.

Just picked-up a set of the probes via the Kickstarter to add to my PCBite 1.0 kit!  Awesome product!

Can you easily flip your board with PCBite?

No. And I think that the only drawback when compared with a 'regular' PCB holder. Its more designed for the 'test and measure' phase. Its isolated washers means you can grip a PCB without fear of shorting a signal.

I know this is bringing a thread back from the dead but I only just discovered this interesting unit. Elektor are the UK agent (and likely Europe as well) for this product and just sent me a discount offer that reduced the cost to 114.95 Euros for the following.....

Large base plate
Small base plate
4 PCB holders
4 probe arms
4 probe heads with pogo pins
4 sets of Dupont test cables for the heads.

I have been intending to DIY just such a unit so this has saved me a lot of time. The Elektor shop discount ends at midnight on 29 July.

It seems there is only one plate in the kit (which is fine) the other square in the kit is a cleaning cloth.

I still use my 1.0 kit for most of my DIY soldering and it still performs like on the first day.
The plate is a bit dirty from flux residues, but I'm sure I could clean it if I deemed it necessary.
I would recommend it to anyone able to afford it.

Pixelk,

You are right. I mistook the cloth for the smaller plate  :palm: Sorry. I will correct my post.
