In the past I always claimed that eBay provides a training ground for wannabe conman. These days I have to amend that statement with "and crowdfunding is where the conman graduate".

Hold it. That may be that hardware block , but there is a bit of software involved. It syncs between devices and stores versions ... The addonics doesnt do that by itself.

sure.

>We’ve been working on Plug for over 2 years now. The hardware device you’ve seen on the video is ready for production. It will be manufactured by one of our
>partners in Shenzen.

see, they worked for two years to bring this 5 year old hardware to market and are finally ready now!

and about the software

>On the software side, we are in the process of transforming our prototype code into production code

they have few ideas, mockups and scripts that they think can be implemented for realzies

There is a multitude of free backup programs supporting versioning (example http://evacopy.sourceforge.net/)

There is a "Report this project" link at the bottom of every project page on Kickstarter. They do look into reports of scams like reselling existing products, and usually kill the campaign in those cases.

There are still 54 days left in this one, so plenty of time for KS to put a stop to it if they get a few complaints.

To reduce manufacturing risks, the Plug device hardware is based on the Wanser-R, a commodity device produced by MRT Communications. We've partnered with MRT to change some components of the Wanser-R, so it meets Plug's performance requirements. The firmware, which gives its main functions to the device, is fully reprogrammed.

"We overclocked it"

I've got a device called the PogoPlug which is pretty much all that and stuff. I used it for a few days and unplugged it.
At least it had wifi.

They admit they didn't design it, but lets put a cool picture with a guy doing electronics stuff with a 4 channel scope and Arduino parts scattered around.

Nice idea, I guess the Addonics needed better marketing.

The blurb says they are using commodity hardware, with some mods of their own implemented.

Anyone know of a current, equivalent (or better) device on the market?

Thanks

Scripts aren't going to be able to attach as a filter driver into the filesystem. It sounds like that's what they are doing in order to achieve the type of synchronization they are after.

There's also some unexplained magic involved that allows two or more Plug nodes behind different NAT walls to find each other and establish a VPN. They mentioned something about how each device has a unique ID that is used in the address... but that implies some form of public name registry, and they've said that this system does not require any centralized servers.
