What camera module are you using ? Is it fully documented ? It can be hard to find full info on many camera modules.

Expected price ?
Youtube channel:Taking wierd stuff apart. Very apart.
Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
Day Job: Mostly LEDs

RggBer is using OV5640 image sensor chip in the camera module. Please see the module in attached.

The module is fully documented by the supplier.

Usually user need to spend time to find the full info of image sensor chip. Lucky, OV5640 is a commonly used chip and these are full docmentations online.
We created the HD camera demo based on these online documentation.

As a open source hardware, finally we will share and open all the design files to people. For example, the registers setting and AF control firmware.

About the price, we do not finalize the price. During the campaign, usually small batch order, the order price would be $150/unit as estimation, to cover the material cost, NRE cost and manufacture cost.

Still using 8051? Then no.

Still using 8051? Then no.

MCU is for CIS setting, EDID data setting and UART interface to BL module. It seems all of them are not timing critical. For most FPGA deisgner and hardware designer, handle C51 is much easily. Essentially, RggBer is a FPGA based open hardware!

Why not using a free version of Nios then?

Why not using a free version of Nios then?

Nios II CPU was one of the solutions once we considered about. We gave up for:

1) Nios II request FPGA internal reg resource and RAM resource. We did not think it was mandatory.

2) Once user need to change even a bit in setting, he/she have to recompile the whole FPGA project. For MCU solution, user can update it in less than 1 minute.

3) MCU provides lots of analog resoures such as ADC and DAC that enhance the control capabilities of RggBer. For example, you need to drive a MENS for image scan by DAC drive.

Thanks for your questions.
