Transparent Solar Cells
« on: October 15, 2015, 05:36:23 pm »
This sounds really suspicious as the first idea of solar cell is to collect light to convert it to electricity.

But this even makes quite some sense. Care to watch the video in the middle of article:

Maybe some more experienced ones here can do some ballpark calculations also.

The text does say that the efficiency is 1 % with 5 % theoretically possible. I guess that the the top figure is with solar cells that convert all the ultraviolet and infra red into electricity that don't exist yet.
The 1 % efficiency compares poorly with the around 20 % efficiency when the visible spectrum is used so I think that it's a nice idea but is doesn't really compare well with using roof mounted solar cells.
